I might be trying to keep my distance, but Jordan doesn’t have the same kind of self-control. He presses closer to her, and I’m surprised she doesn’t slap him or step away. “You’re ours,” he murmurs softly.

Lennon’s eyes flutter closed, and I watch in fascination as her chest starts to rise faster with every breath she takes. Jordan leans in and skims his nose down the column of her neck, the action making her shudder.

I would give anything to sandwich her between us right now, but I’m willing to let my brother show her what I can’t allow myself to right now. If I touch her, I’ll never be able to stop.

What if she’s serious about not thinking anything else should happen between us? She could break my heart too damn easily. I can’t let it happen. Everything will fall apart if it does.

A little distance is good for both of us right now. No matter how much I hate it.

“I’m not yours,” her voice is breathless and filled with desire.

“You’ll see,” my voice is husky with how much I’m holding myself back.

Lennon shakes her head and then pushes Jordan away from her gently. “This can’t happen,” there’s a yearning in her voice, but there’s also a resolve there I know we need to respect.

At least for now.

When she steps closer to the door, I don’t stop her this time. Jordan steps closer to her, his hands reaching out for her, but I put my hand on his shoulder and give a squeeze.

We need to let her go. We’ve pushed her far enough for one night. If we aren’t careful, we’ll push her right out of our lives, and I won’t stand for that to happen.

Lennon slips out of the door and looks back at us, her beautiful brown eyes dancing between us and showing us, if only for a split second, how much she longs for us. She’s denying what is right in front of her.

I know why she’s doing it. I hope she knows we won’t let her get away with it for long.

Not when she’s so close.

Not when we could have the future we were always destined to have. Together.

Jordan’s voice is pleading, “How could you let her walk out? She was right there.”

“We have to go slow with her, or she’ll shut us out for good. Don’t worry, she won’t be able to avoid us forever,” I reassure him.

“I really hate having to go slow,” he mumbles, clearly pouting.

I chuckle softly as he practically stomps out of the bathroom, and I follow him. I’m sure Lennon will be making excuses to leave as soon as possible. We’ll have to let her go and then fill Kemp in on the conversation we just had.

Hopefully he doesn’t throw a punch because he’s jealous we got a few minutes with our woman. If he does, it’ll be more than worth it.

CHAPTER 8

JORDAN

I was so close to Lennon last night that I swear I could taste her on my tongue. I was going to touch her. I was going to kiss her. I was going to remind her exactly how good we were together.

But she was clearly overwhelmed and needed to get away from us. I wouldn’t have been able to let her walk out of the bathroom if Lachlan hadn’t held me back.

I’ve never been that close to knocking out my brother than I was in that moment. It was even worse because he was right. We all knew if we pushed her then she would shut us out. We had talked about it and decided to give her some space, but we also knew we needed to clear the air between us a little bit.

I never intended to tell her she’s ours, but I’m hoping the little seed I planted is taking root and it’s something she’s thinking about. I didn’t want her to think, even for a moment, the night we shared together was going to be the end of it.

It was only the beginning.

This whole giving her space thing is killing me. I want to be near her. I want to touch her whenever I want. I need her comfort and her time. And there’s no way I would turn down her attention.

I’ve never met anyone like her before. When she’s focused on you, it feels like the sun is shining right on your upturned face. I’m amazed she made me feel that way even when my brothers were there vying for her attention as well.

It just proved to me that she is exactly the woman we need in our lives.
