Hadn’t been for three years.

It didn’t matter how many times I denied that fact. The club had rules. Until Largo Finn was legally my wife once more, the club’s charter was clear. The club would disavow any relationship, therefore rendering her a threat to the club because of everything she knew. And because of her knowledge, it was enough to order her death.

“But I’m still club property.”

We all turned to find Largo leaning against the doorjamb, pale and tired, when she bared her right shoulder blade for all to see. The brand, my brand, I put on her skin the day I married her, was still there.

She looked worn out and still scared, but my woman never took her eyes off Montana, who glared back unrepentantly.

“I never removed it. I know you are all mad and I don’t blame any of you, but, Montana, what I did, I did for a reason. I will tell you everything. Answer every question to the best of my abilities, right after Caleb and I remarry.”

“It doesn’t work that way, Largo!”

“But it does,” my woman countered. “I divorced Caleb. Not the other way around. I left him. He didn’t leave me, and I never took one dime from him.”

“What is she talking about?” Montana asked, looking at his father, who sighed, before letting his son go.

“Tell him, George,” Snoopy spoke, smirking as he shook his head, winking at Largo before he added, “He’s gonna find out eventually.”

I was missing something.

Something big.

No one dared move.

“I never stopped loving him, Montana. I still love him.”

“What the fuck is she talking about?” Montana demanded.

George sighed heavily. “I put the clause in after your mother left. You gotta understand, Son, I loved your mother like you love Tessa. Wasn’t anything I wouldn’t do for her. I wasn’t in my right mind back then. She swore an oath to me, to this club. So, Snoopy and I came up with the marital clause.”

“What fucking clause, Dad!”

“Largo divorced Caleb, but still wears the club brand. That still makes her club property. Because she divorced Mercy, your VP has the right to take her back. If he does, and she agrees, Largo accepts the club’s punishment.”

“What are you talking about?”

“What punishment?” I asked, looking from George to Largo, who had the decency to look away.

She knew something about this fucking club that I didn’t.

How was that possible?

Montana sighed, shaking his head as he plopped back into his chair, rubbing his hands down his face. “Yeah. What he said. What fucking punishment?”

“If Mercy takes Largo back, she will need to bleed for the club.”

“Excuse me?” Montana hissed in shock.

“What do you mean bleed for the club?” Fury asked angrily.

George sighed before looking at me. “Sorry, Mercy, but I never intended that clause to be used. If you take Largo back, she must submit to theBlood of a Sinner.”

Slowly sitting back down, I stared in shock at the man I admired.

This had to be a joke.

He was joking.
