“Largo’s right, Prez,” Fury sighed, rubbing his neck. “She is the heir to the Guillermo Family fortune. When our grandfather learns that his daughter, son-in-law and grandson have died, he will search for Largo and this will be the first place he looks. He will take her from us and secure her, while he makes the city streets run red with Romano blood.”

“Well, we can’t keep the alliance with the Romano’s. Not after what they did,” Shame added.

“I say we just kill them and be done with it,” Malice clearly said. “Got too many affiliations as it is. It’s getting crowded around here.”

“I agree,” added Payne.

“Largo, we’ve never met. My name is Vicious,” an older man said, pushing off the wall. “Can I ask you a question?”

I nodded, sniffing, as I looked at the man.

“While I understand your family affiliation with Fury, what happened with your family, and the possibility of a looming war, I’m still confused about one thing. With everything you knew about this club, what we stand for, what we are capable of doing, why didn’t you bring this to your husband?”

“Exactly what I want to know,” Caleb said angrily, crossing his arms over his broad chest.

He looked beyond pissed.

Gulping, I whispered, “Because I was protecting all of you.”

The second the words left my mouth, some brothers slowly shook their heads, while a few cursed, however when Caleb picked up the wooden chair Malice had been sitting in earlierand threw it against the brick wall, shattering it into hundreds of pieces, I knew my ass was grass.

“You bitch!” he roared. “I’m your fucking husband! It’s my fucking job to protect you, not the other way around! How dare you fucking take that away from me!”

“Caleb, I’m sorry. I did what I thought was right.”

Grabbing my wrist, Caleb yanked me towards him roughly. Gripping my arms tight, he growled, “And now I’m going to do what I think is right.”

“What do you mean?” I trembled.

“It’s punishment time.”

Chapter Eight

Mercy

“Mercy,” Fury said cautiously. “Need you to calm the fuck down, brother. You’ve been drinking and you’re not thinking clearly. You go back in there like this and you could hurt her badly.”

“Like she hurt me?” I challenged, watching as Montana lit the fire before placing the branding iron deep into the flames. “We could have avoided all of this if she’d just come to me. We could have resolved this shit years ago! I lost three years. Three!”

“What about what she’s lost?” Fury countered. “She’s lost her whole family, Mercy. She’s all alone in this fucked-up world.”

“And whose fault is that? Not mine. I didn’t choose to walk away from the one source I knew could handle anything. Those deaths have nothing to do with me. Her family would still be alive if she had come to me. All of us would have bled for her.”

“He’s right, Fury,” Malice added, standing next to Montana. “Nothing I wouldn’t have done for that woman. She’s one of us. The best of us. She shit on all of us when she did a runner. Now it’s time to pay the piper.”

“The club rules are clear, Fury,” Montana stated, crossing his arms. “She knew what would happen, even agreed to it. So, what’s your fucking problem?”

“My problem is she is of my blood. My family.”

“Not until Bane confirms it.”

“And when the blood work comes back, then what? How will I be able to look my family in the eye after what we’re about to do to her?”

“Not my problem,” Montana simply said, walking away. “Either you follow through or I will hold you accountable for insubordination.”

Ignoring my furious brother, I followed Montana back into the mailroom, where Largo was still standing in the exact spot I left her in. With each step I took, I moved closer to her, until finally I leaned against the wall for support, my eyes locked onto the person who meant everything to me, my mind consumed with thoughts of where I went wrong and the choices that led us here.

Words could not express the depth of my feelings for her; she was everything to me.
