“Katie, can you give us a minute, please?” Montana kindly asked as the woman nodded, quickly leaving the private room.

“What the fuck is going on?” I seethed. “Romano and not Finn? There is no fucking way Landon would marry someonewithout his family knowing. I knew the kid. He may have been a pain in the ass, but he was all about his family.”

“So, you think the girl is lying?”

“No,” I said, shaking my head. “She’s fucking telling the truth or the truth someone peddled to her. Something more is going on here. We’re being fed small pieces at a time.”

“I agree.” Montana nodded. “And I know Illyria. She would investigate every employee thoroughly and would only hire them after Maxim had done his own investigation. There is no way that girl didn’t check out. Which means she’s telling the truth. Malice, call Storm and have him pick up the girl and take her back to the clubhouse. In the meantime, we need to shelve this shit until after we speak to Romano. Maybe he can shed some light on this clusterfuck.”

An hour later, I sat across the table from Renaldo Romano, his brother Rico and four of his men, as Montana asked, “And you’ve never seen that man?”

Renaldo Romero stared at the picture of the dead fucker who beat the hell out of my wife in my own fucking clubhouse.

Handing the photo to Rico, Renaldo shook his head. “Sorry, no. And this bastard walked right into the Soulless Sinners’ clubhouse and said he worked for me?”

“That’s what our prospect said,” Montana stated flatly.

“Does the name Armando Guillermo mean anything to you?” I asked, trying to move this conversation along.

Renaldo chuckled. “Now that’s a name I’m familiar with. What has the old fucker done now?”

“That’s where we’re not sure. Got too many names being spread around and none of them making sense. For instance, Armando Guillermo had two daughters.”

“He has one biological daughter,” Rico interrupted.

“What?” I asked, looking from him to Montana, who sat up.

“Fucker has one biological daughter who married a Moreno. Her son is a brother in your club. I thought you knew this story?”

“Enlighten me,” Montana growled.

“Armando Guillermo is Sicilian. Old school. When he came to America, he thought he could set up shop and run the city, but our ancestors had other plans. The Romanos had been here longer, and with the blood pact with your family, the Romanos and Stones have owned this city, lock, stock and barrel for generations. Oh, we’ve had a few who thought they could run us out, but we’ve always taken care of business. Well, when Guillermo learned that our family wasn’t just going to roll over and let him assume control, he tried to solidify his standing another way.”

Rico chuckled. “Fucking Sicilians. Always wanting something for nothing.”

“Anyway, Guillermo knew without an heir, he didn’t have a leg to stand on. And only having a daughter didn’t do him any favors, either. Then, out of nowhere, he had another daughter. Where she came from, none of us knew, but we all knew she wasn’t biologically his. His wife could not have children after the birth of their daughter. Now, some people believe the new daughter was the product of an affair, but most believe she is the daughter of another family.”

“Another family?” Malice asked.

“Yeah,” Renaldo sighed. “Rumors started running when Guillermo introduced his new daughter. The girl looked nothing like the mother, sister, or Guillermo. Tall, fair-skinned, delicate features with striking blue-gray eyes?”

Rico added, “Not to mention her hair. Girl was a blonde. A natural blonde.”

“I don’t understand?”

“Guillermo is Sicilian. His wife was Sicilian. Dark tanned skin, brown eyes, black hair. Typical Italian traits. Yet, he hada blonde-haired, blue-eyed, fair-skinned daughter? Not fucking likely.”

Renaldo continued, “Guillermo groomed this girl from infancy to be the perfect Italian wife, and even ensured that our father would fall for her. When our dad learned what Guillermo was planning, he offered Julianna an out when he learned that she was pregnant with another man’s baby. She didn’t want to marry our dad. She loved this other guy. So, Dad offered the woman an out, and she took it.”

“Smart woman too.” Rico nodded.

“Julianna and this other guy never made it to the church. They died en route. Car bomb. Dad lost his shit. When Dad went to kill the fucker, all he found was an old man with dementia. Dad refused to kill a man who was already dying.”

What the hell was going on?

I fucking met Largo’s parents.

Hell, they were there the day I married their daughter. They stood beside Largo at Sophia’s christening. Yet, I knew Renaldo and his brother had no reason to lie to us. Nothing to gain.
