Then, and only then, do I let my grip go. My back sinks down the kitchen unit, my body slumped on the floor. I unravel. Still unknowing, but fully aware.

Chapter Twenty-Six

TRAVIS

“Why are you here?” My unblinking, focused eyes never stray from Mollie’s.

“I was helping my friend.”

I smirk, tucking in my chin. “Your friend?” I question.

“Yes, Mads. My friend. She needed help setting all this up.”

I know the two of them have gotten closer, but I do not want them relying on each other. Mollie’s got no reason to stick around now. No reason to remain close by. Not now that I know Dean’s intentions.

He didn’t have to say it. His half-arsed goodbye when I saw him only served to anger the beast within me. What am I supposed to do? Step into his shoes? Take care of his family? Run his club? That’ll kill me before I even try to start. I won’t break my promise, wouldn’t dream of it. But I cannot see for the fucking life of me why Dean appeared to quit so easily. Would he explain it to me or give me any reason as to why he was covered in blood when he walked in? No, none. I sat there like an idiot, reeling internally at the sight of him. Reeling because I had to look him in the eye knowing that I wouldn’t see him again.

Ever.

Just thinking that tears an agonising rip through my chest. It scratches and burns unapologetically, leaving me exposed. Onedge. What the fuck am I supposed to tell Mads? I fear there’ll be pieces no one will ever be able to fix back together once I do. Damn you Dean, all the way to fucking hell for putting this on me.

Taking a step closer to her, Mollie throws her shoulders back, her chin lifting as I invade her breathing space. My hands haven’t stopped shaking since I left the prison. They continue to when I see her eyes narrow, her armour falling into place ready to spar with me.

Good. She’ll need it. “Apparently, I’m to talk to you.” My voice is thick and heavy as I incline my head to her.

Judging by the way her face tightens and her eyes never stop moving between mine, I’d say she knows full well what I’m referring to. Licking her lips before they part, Mollie takes a shaky breath. “What did he say?”

“You know what.” I can’t help the short way I respond.

I don’t bother checking if anyone’s looking, but Mollie does. There’s a hint of worry in her eyes as she scans the room.

“He didn’t say anything. Only that I should talk to you. Which I’ve simply had e—fucking—nough of. So spill it, quick, then get the fuck out and don’t come back.”

Her breathing quickens. Her eyes now a shade of maddening red. She shakes her head side to side. “You think coming back was easy for me? You think being here, seeing you almost every day is what I wanted?” Her voice is getting louder. “These past weeks have been hell for me too!” she snaps.

I smile taking another closing step towards her. Parting my legs slightly, I drop my face, lowering it dangerously close to hers. I let my hot breath hit her cheeks. I can tell it takes everything she’s got not to breathe me in. “It’s nothing more than you deserve.”

A chink in her protective suit vanishes. “Deserve?” she grinds out. “I didn’tdeservefor you treat me the way you did.” Shepushes forward, but immediately stumbles back when I keep my vow to never accommodate her again.

One leg hitches to stop herself falling, one hand resting flat on the stool behind her. The slit in her skirt shifts, exposing her leg to me. I’m still stood over her, our eyes mercilessly locked on one another. I shouldn’t, but when she looks down checking her leg and doesn’t move it or pull away, I reach out, placing my hand on her skin. Her soft, inviting skin.

This woman. I hate her.

“Don’t.” Mollie’s voice wobbles.

I don’t listen. My hand glides over the surface of her leg, slipping its way to the top of her thigh. She doesn’t want me to stop. Her chest rises and falls, bobbing her round breasts up and down.

When I reach the apex, my thumb sumptuously close to her pussy, she squeezes her legs closed. “I said don’t.” Her breath wooshes out of her like she’s enjoying the feel of my hands on her body. It’s been a long time, but she hasn’t forgotten. How could she.

There may be hate, but one thing neither of us can deny is how good we fucked. Like animals it was unbridled, uncaged. Wild. She’s thinking. Remembering like I am. “Are you sure?” I say in a low tone. My dick hardens as I move my lips to her ear, her back arching her breasts into me. “I can smell how much you want me.”

Warm air hits my cheek as her lips part, her breath escaping her. I don’t move, but I feel the twitch in her leg. Turning her head into mine, shivers scatter down my spine when her lips brush over my ear. “I’d rather die than let you fuck me.”

And that’s when the biggest smile I’ve had in days stretches across my face. It hurts as the skin pulls. “We both know that’s not true,” I growl.

Without warning, her left fist jabs me in the ribs. If it wasn’tfor the small hole in my chest, the pain wouldn’t sting like it does, jolting me and giving her enough room to escape.

She stands grabbing her bag and hastily swipes for her coat.
