I laugh.

“Is he okay?”

Nodding, I lay back down, propping my phone on my bump, leaning it against my bent legs. “He’s fine,” I say, truthfully hoping I’m right. “I think he’s nervous.”

Bex smiles then mouths that Kyle is too.

“I think he’ll be fine once the baby’s here though.”

“Same. This is new to all of us and let’s be honest, it’s fucking terrifying.”

“Agreed.”

“Have you thought about names yet?” Bex asks.

“No, not yet. Have you?”

“Yeah, I have a list as long as my arm. I’m really not sure I can only pick one though.”

“Oh God, you’re not going to give my God-daughter a triple barrelled name are you?”

“I might.” She laughs clearly giving it away that her name choices are certainly going to be more out there than mine.

“Do I want to know?”

“You wish. I’m saving it for the baby shower. You can still make it, right?”

I nod. “Yep. Still think it would be less stressful if you werehaving it now and not bang on your due date though.”

Again, her face says it all. “Look. The longer I leave it, the more likely I am to deliver her whilst you’re down here.”

“I’m not sure she’ll care whether I’m there for her delivery, nor will she remember,” I chuckle.

“True. But I will.”

I smile. “Anyway, isn’t the first child the hardest to deliver? She might want to stay in the cozy home you’ve given her. I might come all that way and she refuses to show herself in time.”

“Maybe. But I’m willing to risk it.” We laugh together.

“You’re mad.”

“No. I just want my best friend holding my hand. I want you there when she comes. That’s all.”

Tears seep and my eyes turn foggy. “Bitch, you made me cry.”

“Made myself cry too.” She dries her eyes with her sleeve, and we chuckle at ourselves.

“Miss you, Bex,” I tell her.

“Miss you too.”

“And I’ll be there, okay. I wouldn’t miss it. Oh, and Jess confirmed she can come.”

“Perfect.” Her smile is warming. They’re not the same as face to face, but our weekly catch ups are something I hold dear to my heart. I miss my best friend. “Right,” she starts, “short and sweet tonight. I’ll call next week?”

“Sounds good to me. Speak soon, love you.”

“Love you,” Bex replies, blowing me a kiss and hanging up.
