He turns. “I’m not fucking calling your therapist.” He lifts his chin. “Anyway, shouldn’t you two be leaving soon?” Travis throws his smoke to the ground.

I look at my watch with a slight smile. I don’t want to aggravate him any further. “I need to find her first.”

Travis starts walking towards the entrance of the pub. “Knowing Mads, she probably found the quietest place away from everyone.”

Shit. Why didn’t I think of that? My feet are moving withoutthought. I walk through the pub, passing everyone still having a good time, coming to a halt when I see her.

Out in the garden, Mads stands looking up to the stars. I take off my jacket, placing it over her shoulders before I wrap my arms around her waist. “You okay, beautiful?”

She leans her head back against my chest. “Better than okay.”

I kiss her head. “Why aren’t you inside?”

“Needed some air.”

I notice her glass of champagne is still untouched. “You sure?”

Mads turns in my arms, sliding her arms around me. “I’m sure.”

Pushing her body against mine, she closes her eyes, worn out by the day.

Wondering Whyby The Red Clay Strays plays from inside, the slow beat loud enough for us to follow. I start moving my feet, gently making her sway. “Our song.”

She smiles up at me, her eyes twinkling in the white of the garden lights.

I can’t help myself. Angling her chin with my thumb, I lower, seizing the opportunity of it being just the two of us. Slowly, my tongue dances with hers as her body gently rocks against mine. In the dim light, I don’t see her tear, I taste it as it hits my lip. My hand slides to the side of her face, my fingers in the back of her hair. “Mads?”

She leans forward. “I’m fine.” She nuzzles her face against me. After a few moments, she starts sniffing my shirt. “Did you smoke?” Standing to her tiptoes, she presses her nose to my neck, her hand using my hair as an anchor.

My dick twitches.

“You did. Didn’t you?”

Fuck me. “I didn’t, I swear.” I protest my innocence, onlyserving to make myself look more guilty. I haven’t smoked for months. Damn her super strength smell. Last time she was like this she was… My eyes dart to hers.

She’s smiling, her eyes now soaked.

“Babe?” I don’t think my heart can withstand the drilling rate at which it beats. I’m sweating. A pathetic mess of man stood before her. “Are you? Are we?” Why is my voice so high?

Mads chokes out a sob, her smile still wide. “We are.”

I hone in, taking my girl in my arms and lifting her. “Are you fucking serious?” I let her body slide down my front until her arms are resting on my shoulders.

“You’re going to be a dad. Again,” she laughs, her hands either side of my face.

The ability to breathe has gone. My throat burns, my eyes fill, just like hers. It’s overwhelming. Emotional. Absorbing.

Blinding.

Mads showed me what love looks like. What it feels tobeloved and to have something worth living for. She became the part of me I’ll always need. The part of me that shines the brightest.

Love was our first thing, and she will forever be my always.

This is our life now.

I wouldn’t have it any other way.
