“There,” I say, pointing at the stranger. “He’s watching Tracker.”

Spark nods and clicks his mouse a few times to get another camera angle. The camera is far enough away that Spark has to zoom in to get a better look at the man. This increases the pixilation, but not so much that I can’t make out his features. I know him. I feel my body stiffen at the image before me. The man I haven’t seen in five years. The leader of a group of assholes who attacked me in the casino parking lot. He’s supposed to be in jail. Why isn’t he? Why was he in our casino?

“That’s him,” I hear Tracker say, but I’m hearing him as if he’s speaking through a long pipe. His voice is distant, as are the others. Juliet and Spark are calling my name, but they’re so far away I can’t find them.

“Viper, baby,” I hear Rafe calling to me. He’s my rock. My consciousness claws its way to the surface to find him. “Viper, don’t know who that is, but he can’t hurt you, baby. I won’t let him. None of us will. Come back to me. Don’t let him win.”

Rafe’s words pull me back to the present as I shake away the fear. Rafe’s right. I’m not the same girl I was that day. I’m not weak. I can fight back. And more importantly, I’m not alone.

“Who is he to you?” Rafe asks me.

“He’s one of the five who attacked me after my show. I thought he was in jail,” I explain.

“Holy shit, you’re right. That’s Gary Mitchell. I thought he looked familiar. Shit.” Spark turns his attention to Tracker. “He’s the guy who set you up?”

Tracker nods.

“What’s going on?” Max asks when he steps into the room.

“We know who hired Tracker,” Spark explains. “Gary Mitchell.”

“I’ve got the image of the guy staying next door to Wayne,” Juliet calls over.

I go to her screen and see what I expect. “Gary Mitchell.”

“He’s registered using a credit card from Michelson Trucking,” Juliet adds. “Michelson, Mitchell, and Traynor are connected.”

“Well, fuck,” mutters Rafe.

CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX: RAFE

Whatever we’ve uncovered, I can’t help but think this goes way beyond Wayne’s murder. These three men are involved in something more than just trying to set Viper up for Wayne’s murder. The whole plan is too elaborate for it to be. They went to some trouble to implicate Viper, but why?

“Son of a bitch!” Max explodes. He’s standing behind Tracker and looking at the image of Gary Mitchell.

“What?” I ask him.

“That’s the asshole who bought Viper from Wayne. He’s the fucker that came to our house and beat the shit out of Wayne when Viper and our mom disappeared.”

“Are you certain?” I ask.

“Positive. I’ll never forget him. Fuck, I memorized the guy’s face, especially when I knew he was coming to Vegas to find her. Had to make sure I stayed out of his way.”

“Okay, we’re getting somewhere. I’m not sure where, but all this is adding up as a play to get Viper,” I say.

“We need to take all this to Church. Max, can you escort Tracker out of here? Thanks for helping us out, Tracker. No hard feelings?” Viper asks.

“Fuck, no. I’m sorry they used me to get to you. I’d be livid if someone tried to frame one of my brothers.”

Tracker follows Max out of the room. Viper on their heels. At the door, she turns to me. “Coming?”

“Fuck, yeah.”

We don’t immediately locate Puma, but Viper sees Wildcard and heads in his direction. She quickly updates him on what Spark and Juliet uncovered. “Spark is searching for the link between Michelson, Mitchell, and Traynor.”

“We need to call Church. Puma’s seeing our guests off the property. Tracker didn’t seem like a bad guy, but his President is an asshole.”

“No argument from me,” I reply. Wildcard claps me on the shoulder.
