I smile at them. “You won’t have to worry about them again. We have them locked up so they can’t hurt anyone again.”

“What about the babies? Were they there before you?” Cleo asks.

“They came after.” Mina says. “A man brought them.” She describes Mikel perfectly. Cleo shows the kids an image of Mikel to confirm our suspicion.

I follow Cleo over to Hex, happy to know that we still have Mikel on ice. We’ll be able to get the information we need to return the babies to their families. As I consider how lucky it is that we kept Mikel alive, the back door flies open to let in Abra and Jack. Between them, they’re carrying the other prospect, Irish. Irish is unconscious, with a trail of blood running from his temple down to his chin.

“What happened?” Hex asks, rushing forward, along with Lake. Lake immediately takes charge of Irish, as he and Jack carry him off to the infirmary.

“Mikel’s escaped,” Abra says. “Not sure how long he’s been gone.”

“Fuck!” Hex roars. His shout has Garrett and Mina cowering and wakens the babies. Cleo rushes over to soothe the babies, while Pirate calms the children.

“Hex, you’re scaring the children,” Cleo scolds him, and I see him flinch.

“Sorry, have Delphine find them a quiet room.” Hex frowns and looks around the room. “Has anyone seen Delphine? I thought for certain she’d be in the middle of all this.”

“I tried pounding on her door earlier, but she didn’t answer,” I remind him. “I think she’s still mad at me.”

“Maybe she left,” Cleo suggests, but I shake my head.

“Her car is still here.”

“Nora, have you seen Delphine?” Hex asks the Kutte Bunny.

Nora stops clearing a table to answer. “No, I tried to tell you earlier when you asked me to go get supplies. I haven’t seen Delphine since the day before yesterday.”

Frowning, Hex take out his phone. He accesses his location map before frowning at the screen. “Did you see her leave?”

Nora nods. “Yeah, she said she had some errands to run. It was around nine.”

Hex nods, switching to another app, this one providing a live view of a parking lot. He taps on the screen before bolting to his feet, his chair crashing to the ground behind him. “Someone grabbed Delphine from the parking lot.”

“What?” I shout, grabbing the phone and glaring at the image.

“I can’t find her on the locater app.”

“Have you tried calling her?” Cleo asks him.

He glares at her, but takes his phone back from me. “Put it on speaker,” I ask him. The phone rings a few times before the call connects, but it isn’t Delphine’s sweet voice that comes through.

“Well, I was wondering how long it would take you to call. Have to tell you I’m disappointed in you, son. Thought your mama meant more to you.”

“Who the fuck is this?” Hex shouts. “Where’s Delphine?”

“She’s safe. For now. I should just kill the bitch, but I thought we could have a family reunion first.”

“If you hurt her, I’ll gut you,” Hex snarls.

“Now, is that anyway to talk to your father?”

CHAPTER ONE: BABE

“You’ve reached Min. Hang up and text me like a normal person.”

“Fuck,” I mutter, as once again I reach Min’s voicemail instead of Min. I don’t leave a message. She never listens to them. So why bother? I’d send a text, but I have already sent her a dozen. All delivered, none answered. Where the fuck is she?

“Problems?” Ghost asks, taking a seat next to me at the bar.
