“Ok, loves! Bon appétit!” Penny announced sliding the pizza onto the kitchen counter.

“Hey, Mads, will Abigail be here tonight?” Maybelle asked Madelyn, regarding their other roommate who was obviously absent. Madelyn shook her head grabbing for the pizza, “Nope, she went out tonight.”

“What about Sabrina?” Penny asked.

Maybelle gathered a few sodas from the fridge and put them out on the counter, “She and Williams broke up. I think it might be awkward for her to hang out with us now because I tried to invite her tonight and to lunch a couple times, but she pulled out every excuse possible for why she is too busy.” Maybelle replied and Penny dropped her bottom lip.

“Awe, I really liked her, poor Noah.”

Maybelle nodded her agreement, then turned to Gracie.

“What might be soon?” Maybelle asked Gracie.

With Gracie’s mouth full of pizza, the raise of her eyebrows and halting of her chewing were enough to silently say, “Huh?”

Maybelle was under no such inclination to cease speaking with a mouth brimming with pepperoni pizza, “Yousaid you think something might happen soon when Penny and I first walked in, what is it?” Maybelle asked, her speech muffled.

Gracie immediately went red and swallowed, “Ok, if I tell y’all you can’t say anything! Not even to Trey or Danny!” She said pointing a finger at both Maybelle and Penny. They both nodded suddenly sobered by the seriousness in her tone.

Gracie heaved a deep breath before the cheesiest grin overtook her round face, “Bear and I are going to get married!”

Maybelle’s jaw dropped, Penny launched into the air and then toward Gracie squealing, “What? When? Ahh, sweet Bear! You! Oh, my goodness this is the happiest news ever!” Penny squeezed Gracie into her, and Maybelle snickered at the spectacle.

“I don’t know when, but I found the ring in Bear’s nightstand. I think it may be soon, though.”

Holy shit.Maybelle would be a little nervy for anyone else having met and ready to marry within months, but this was Gracie and Bear. They were perfect, made for each other.

“That is so exciting. I’m so happy for you, Gracie.” Maybelle said grabbing napkins for everyone.

Penny finally untangled herself from the girl, “I can’t wait to plan the whole wedding.”

Nobody argued with that, Penny would oversee all their weddings, it was an unspoken expectation.

Penny seized a piece of pizza from the box then draped herself across the couch, “Ugh, I want to be a wife. All married with a pretty ring and a hottie husband. Do you guys ever think about your future hubbies? Who they are and what they might be doing right now?”

Maybelle smirked to herself thinking of the sacred journal she had and the man who cherished it like a priceless treasure, “All the time.” Maybelle said easily as she pulled her phone out and texted Trey without really thinking about it.

Maybelle: Do you ever wonder

what your future wife is up to?

Almost immediately after pressing send her phone pinged.

Trey: What are you up to?

A giddy smile split her face in two.

Maybelle: Missing you.

“We all know you’re dreaming of tall dark and handsome when you think about that, Penn.” Madelyn teased as she grabbed for a second slice of pizza.

Penny sat up from the couch shrugging, “I don’t know, Danny and I have never really talked about any of that. We honestly just became official earlier this spring.” Maybelle’s attention whipped to Penny as she put her phone down on the counter and not back in her pocket.

“What? You didn’t tell me this. I thought you guys have been together for a while, you were all over each other that first game I met you at last year.” Maybelle argued and Penny nodded, a hint of nostalgia twirling behind her bright, crystalline blue eyes.

“I know, that was the first time Danny had ever been touchy with me in public. We were— good friends, at the time until that fall, we started becoming more.” Penny stated as she came up behind Madelyn who had put her pizza down to text. Penny reached over Madelyn for another piece of pizza but paused, blatantly reading whatever was on the cell phone. Maybelle rolled her eyes; Penny was amazing in every way but one of her downfalls was she could be just too damn nosey sometimes.

Penny gasped and Madelyn was so startled she droppedher phone. Madelyn glowered up at Penny who looked at her astonished, “You’re texting Chad Larson? I love the guy but, honey, he is a player. That right there is a road to heartbreak.”
