Those vivid blue, green eyes widened, “He showed youwhat now?” Maybelle demanded, sitting up and shattering the close intensity between them.

Trey chuckled sitting himself up with her, “Yeah, he showed me your best games. He was very proud. You were quite the superstar.”

The light flush creeping up her cheeks made him want to nip and kiss at her skin which he planned to do until Maybelle’s palm landed on his chest, stopping his approach.

“Hold the phone, when you and I chatted in the kitchen graduation morning you said that you didn’t know that I had played sports.” Now Trey was slightly blushing as he grasped her hand bringing it from his chest to his lips, placing a soft kiss to her palm before admitting into her skin, “I lied.”

Maybelle gasped in mock disbelief, “Trey Tory Turner!” She exclaimed and Trey couldn’t help it, he tackled the tantalizing woman back to the bed, pinning her down with his weight. The darling, pink robe that swaddled her supple, tan body slipped revealing more of his favorite expanse of skin. Trey trailed praising kisses from her collar bones down and around to all the generously exposed places while he spoke.

“I was obsessed with you, Maybelle Mason.” He nibbled the bare skin above her navel.

“I would have done anything to get you to notice me for just a moment, speak one sentence to me, spend a second of your time withme.” A kiss against her inner thigh, gliding up to her knee.

“Then that morning you were talking to me, giving me the time of day for once and I was willing to do anything to keep you speaking to me.” Trey rose back up, kissing the underside of her jaw, listening to the way Maybelle’s breathing quickenedthen whispering his lips along the shell of her ear as he said, “Even tell a small lie.”

When their eyes met, noses touching, the grin on Trey’s face was tight full of cramping cheek muscles and Maybelle’s smile was sweet, innocent. It made Trey want to tease and taunt the sexy woman until her sassy, infuriating side came out to play.

Thankfully, he didn’t have to do much to persuade as Maybelle’s eyes narrowed, “You really are obsessed with me, aren’t you?” She purred. Trey kissed her, claiming her mouth and warmth for his own.

He pulled away smiling uncontrollably, “That would be the understatement of the year.”

Trey laid himself down, his head resting on Maybelle’s chest, her arms snaking around drawing him closer into her.

“Trey.” Maybelle said, her arms pulling tight, allowing no room for escape. It was perfect.

“Mayhem?” He responded and her tittering was a comfort against his ear.

“I need you to take me somewhere.” Her words were soft, enough to have Trey lifting his head to inspect his girl.

“Anywhere, love.”

The sky was a blazing sunset of oranges, pinks, and yellows when Trey put the car in park. Maybelle was quiet, but it was a good quiet. They were going to see her family for the first time in almost two years.

Opening her door for her, Trey took the flowers from her hands, allowing her to easily step down from his Jeep onto the plush grass of the local cemetery. Hand in hand Trey led Maybelle down the pathways of tombstones, the quiet peace creating a sanctuary in the field of resting souls. They were close and when Trey tilted his head to glimpse at the girl dressed in awhite tee and jeans, he couldn’t ignore the clog of emotion in the back of his throat.

She was glowing.

A harsh intake of breath from Maybelle had Trey redirecting his focus to the path ahead to see a man standing in front of their intended destination. The man was tall, wearing a black shirt, dark jeans, tan skin, black, curly hair with white highlights, a disheveled amount of facial hair and a slump to his shoulders that Trey had once related with all too well.

“Xavier.” Maybelle breathed and the man spun. His dark eyes widening at the sight of her. Without another word, Maybelle was striding from Trey to the stranger, Xavier, and he was holding his arms out to accept her.

They met in a gut-wrenching hug, a reunion. Maybelle was crying again, and so was he. They both cried, grasping tightly, with only their tears, nearby birds and far off traffic to fill the silence.

Maybelle pulled back, the two of them still embracing as she giggled through a sob, “You’ve gotten old!” She exclaimed running her fingers through the patches of white in his straight black strands. Xavier guffawed through his own tears.

“And you talk!” He pointed out and they both embraced once again, their laughter combining into a happy melody.

They parted from one another, and Maybelle’s smiling eyes found Trey’s, “Xavier, this is Trey. Liam’s best friend and my— my boyfriend.” The darling flush to her cheeks had Trey stepping up next to his girl hooking an arm around her waist then locking hands with Xavier in a firm shake.

“Yes, I think we have met.” Xavier observed and the pieces clicked into place.

“Tacos?” Trey asked and Xavier beamed.

“Yes, I served you and Liam a couple of times in my parents’ restaurant.”

Trey nodded, remembering a few nights Liam had dragged him to his favorite taco shop after a wild party or two, where Xavier would leave the restaurant open for them, feeding them all the free tacos and water he could get down them.

Trey’s laughter was a ruckus of humiliation as he thought of the time he barfed in the bathroom while Liam and Xavier laughed their asses off at him, “Damn, you sir might have the most humbling stories to tell about me. That being said, you are not allowed to give a toast at our wedding so I can keep hold to at least an ounce of my pride.” Xavier’s smile grew while Maybelle shot Trey a side long glance.
