He was waiting for her reaction.

Maybelle then quickly registered that everyone in the small room was waiting for her reaction. She felt like a zoo animal, as they gawked at her in silence, she shifted and adjusted uncomfortably. She sat up straight against her pillow, still nobody moved, nobody spoke.

Maybelle decided that maybe sleep wasn’t all that bad, the darkness of her mind didn’t stare back at her all creepy and unnervingly. In efforts to give the people what they wanted, she spoke, asking the first question that had come to her mind when the pretty man in front of her first walked in.

“Are we related?”

The young man’s expression didn’t change he only slowly shook his head. Maybelle tried to let out an exaggerated sigh but instead started a bit of a coughing fit.

“Good.” She shoved out between coughs then let her eyes obviously and freely roam all over him. From his tanned legs to the imprint of steel abs through a tight-fitting black sports shirt, that large masculine chest andoh good gollythose broad shoulders that led to lean arms, veiny forearms, and massive hands.

His face went tight as he pinched his lips together to hide a growing smirk. Even a stifled smile from him was contagious and incredibly stunning.

Maybelle grinned back, encouraged to continue, “So I don’t know if they told you, but my brain decided to take a yearlong vacation and failed to retain very vital information like your name and why I was so lucky to know it so please, do tell.” She requested boldly.

His jaw unhinged.

Should she not have been so blunt?

Well, she didn’t quite care, the look on his face was far too amusing for her to regret it or take it back.

Betsy, in her corner, let out a hearty chuckle, “How about we exit for a few minutes and let these two get reacquainted.”

She walked to the door and gestured for Doctor Brown and Chelsea to follow her out. Doctor Brown gave Maybelle a curt nod and small smile before exiting while Chelsea grabbed the still nameless young man’s hand, he returned the gesture then she too walked out the door.

Welp… It was quiet again.

This whole experience so far had all been overly dramatic and now exceptionally awkward. Maybelle felt a bit exposed under his silent stare, especially since she couldn’t quite recall what she looked like. This man was gorgeous but for all she knew she could have a snaggletooth, lop sided face, and overgrown eyebrows that had absolutely no relation to one another.

She made an effort not to let the insecurity tighten with anxiety in her stomach. If he was going to blatantly stare, then so would she.

Maybelle’s eyes darkened and a mischievous smile danced across her lips as she peered up at him through lowered lashes.

She better be hot.

This look could be totally sexy and seductive if she were good looking but if she was ugly this probably looked horrifying.

He returned her stare with a challenging, quizzical look.

“What?”

“Ah, he speaks.” She mused.

A low chuckle that gave her shivers escaped him.

“I’m sorry, it’s just… It has been a long time, waiting for you to wake up. I’ve missed you.” His face softened with the admission.

“Cute.” Maybelle shot. “But I still don’t know your name.”

He joggled his head, shaking away the dazed fog from his eyes, “Right, sorry. It’s Trey.”

Sexy name for a sexy man.

Maybelle gave him a pleased nod.

“So… are we?” Maybelle wiggled a finger between the two of them. Trey picked up what she was laying down and gifted another husky chuckle that now warmed her achy as hell limbs.

Trey hesitated for only a moment before he said, “No, I was best friends with your brother Liam. We all went to school together.”
