“Oh, Mayhem.” He hummed.

Maybelle’s giggles stopped, an eyebrow rose up in query, “Mayhem?” Trey shook his head, more laughter spilling from him in remembrance of one of his favorite moments.

“Déjà vu.” Was his only response to her before he stood from the floor and headed to the kitchen, ignoring her questioning looks. He had woken her only to make sure she was ok but now that she was awake, he didn’t quite want her to fall back asleep just yet.

“Are you hungry?” He asked.

“Starving.” She answered.

Trey opened the fridge door and called back to her, “There’s cold pizza.”

“Pepperoni?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“Perfect.” Maybelle called back.

Trey smiled back over his shoulder at Maybelle as she stared after him over the back of the couch, “Coming right up.”

15 I am Not Obsessed with You

Trey plated them both some cold pepperoni pizza slices then joined Maybelle on the couch. She accepted her plate from him graciously and quickly stuffed the first bite into her mouth.

Gawd, she loved pizza, and this pizza, specifically, was freaking orgasmic. Maybelle appreciated her first slice and it registered to her that this was probably the first solid food she’s eaten in the last year.

Wowza, today was insane.

She side glanced the man who sat with her on the couch also eating pizza. She literally met the guy this morning. Yeah, sure, he supposedly knew her and her family but as far as her memories allowed, he was a complete stranger.

“You know what’s weird?” She asked as she chewed.

“Hm?” Trey grunted with his mouth full, being a little more courteous than her by keeping his mouth closed.

Maybelle stared after him for a moment. As if sensing her scrutiny, he swallowed and paused before taking his next bite. Trey’s vibrant green eyes homing in on her. Maybelle swallowed the pizza and the awe coiling up in the back of her throat.

“I technically met you this morning, now I’m eating your cold pizza and sleeping on your couch.” She got out, holding his gaze.

Trey finally took another bite and gave her a closed-lip grin, “Weird how life works out like that.”

With one last shared smile they continued to eat their seriously delicious pizza in silence. Maybelle expected the quiet to make her want to run but it wasn’t stained with awkwardness, they were cocooned in contentment. Just two acquaintances, one super kind and extremely sexy while the other barely knew anything about anything and could only pray she didn’t agree to stay with a serial killing mom and son duo.

It’s fine, she’s fine.

Anyways, where else could she go?

She had no home, no immediate family, her best option was the nice people who claimed to know her. And if the gorgeous man that is Trey Turner was a killer, so what, she could learn to see past his flaws.

All jokes, but for real, he isthat hot.

The two of them finished their pizza, and Trey took the plates rinsing them off in the kitchen sink.

“So, do I just live on your couch now? Or do I have some extended family I can stay with? I don’t really understand what exactly happens now.” Maybelle admitted.

Trey stopped rustling around in the kitchen, so she looked back to see what he was doing. Trey stood at the counter; eyes glazed over as he stared absently at the countertop.

His eyes finally jumped to hers, “Let me show you something.” Trey approached the couch and stopped just before wrapping her up into him.

“May I?”
