The party tonight was for Maybelle and Penny to have a girl's night out but quickly shifted when they ran into Sam.

Penny had immediately and happily called Daniel asking him to come keep her company while Maybelle followed Sam out onto the dance floor. Tonight, there had been no signof his shy awkwardness. His grin was adorable, his shaggy, dirty blonde hair was combed back showing off his brilliant hazel eyes, an olive toned face, his sculpted body dressed tightly in a light teal tee and jeans hugging his legs.

Sam was almost proud as he pulled her through the crowd and his gentle caressing touches had her shivering with giddy anticipation.

As they danced, Sam’s large hands latched onto Maybelle’s hips, swaying in sync with her even though she was far from in beat with the music. Maybelle tied her arms around his neck, pulling herself against him. Maybelle had to look up to meet his eyes because wow, he was tall.

Not as tall as Trey, though.

Nope, she was just going to shove that thought deep deep down and blame it on a total brain malfunction.

Sam gripped her hips as he leaned in against her ear, “Want to go somewhere quieter?”

Maybelle pulled back, a sugary smile splitting her lips, “Lead the way.”

After Penny left them and found Daniel, Sam led Maybelle up the stairs of the frat house, and she didn’t have to guess his intentions as she spied the many couples in the loft and against dark corners.

A rush of apprehension moved through her as Sam walked them into a dark room, he flipped on the lights revealing an office or meeting room. Only a desk and couple bookshelves lined the wall while a few boxes of what Maybelle guessed was storage towered in a corner.

Sam slid the door shut behind him as he let out a deep sigh, “I’m sorry, I needed to be able to hear myself think for a minute.” Maybelle’s body relaxed because as much fun as she had been having, she welcomed the break as well.

Sam combed a hand through his sweat damp hair a blush taking over his cheeks, “And I wanted to talk to you.”

Maybelle’s mouth pulled tight, smiling at his shy admission. She stepped up to the desk and sat herself on the edge of it, the effort making her shorts hike up, and her feet dangled off the ground, “You look nice tonight.”

His blush faded into the handsome smirk the way she knew it would, “Thank you, uhm, are you having fun tonight?” Sam asked leaning his back against the door behind him.

“For my first party, I have not been disappointed yet.”

Sam beamed, “Good.”

Maybelle watched as he fidgeted with the hem of his shirt, his nervousness obvious from her side of the room, “What’s on your mind?”

Sam turned back to her, surprise taking over his features.

He really must have had no idea how loud his body language was. He took a deep breath before finally saying, “I wanted to ask you something.”

Maybelle nodded for him to continue, and he licked his lips, “There’s this banquet thing for my football team coming up. It's held on the Saturday after the first football game. It acts as a fundraiser, team bonding experience, the cheer and rally teams are invited, faculty will be there, families are invited, there will be dancing, and I hear they serve a lot of this yummy cream puff—”

“Sam.” Maybelle interrupted his long-winded explanation.

Sam’s mouth clicked shut as he watched and waited.

This was perfect, Maybelle had been waiting the last couple weeks for Noah to get back to her about their date to the banquet as friends, but it soon became clear he wouldn’t dareask Trey for his blessing. He felt it was too much of a violation ofBro Codeso Maybelle had given up on the idea.

But now—

“I would love to go with you.” Maybelle answered.

“But I didn’t ask.” Sam said curiously.

Maybelle snickered, “Were you not going to ask me to be your date?”

“No, I was!” Sam corrected earnestly.

Maybelle smiled at him sweetly, “Well you have your answer.”

Sam finally approached the desk and wrapped Maybelle into a very tight embrace, stepping between her legs, while burying his face into her neck.
