“I’m sorry about the shirt.”

Fin chuckled and then grabbed it up, tossing it in the trash can beside the slightly moved desk. I glanced around and noticed that everything that was on his desk was now on the floor.

“Looks like I need to help you clean this up.” I bent down and grabbed a picture off the ground. It had his parents and him in it, along with another female. She had to be Kalila. “Here. I’ll grab the other things.”

“Nikita…”

“It doesn’t bother me. She was before me, and I’m sure your parents loved her as much as you do.” I grabbed another item from his desk and then his laptop from the floor and put them on the top. He walked over to one of the shelves in the room and placed the picture on one of them before coming back to me.

“I know it does, Nikita. But I love you and I can’t wait to make you my Luna officially. This was our destiny from the start. I just fucked that up because I didn’t wait for you.” He pulled me to a standing position and held me close. Being in heat altered my moods so quickly, and I wasn’t surprised when the tears fell from my eyes and onto his bare chest. “We are meant to be. You were born for me and I was born for you.”

I glanced up to his gaze and noticed the tears that were still in his eyes. In the entire time I had been here and been alive, I had never seen an Alpha cry or even tear up. Using the pad of my thumb, I wiped them away before placing a chaste kiss on his lips. “I love you, Fin. And I will try my best to make you and this pack proud of me.”

Chapter Twenty-Four

Nikita

The pack had been preparing for my ceremony for the past two weeks; and during those two weeks, I had their Alpha wrapped up in my desire to jump him each time he was near me. Fin wasn’t as worried since our conversation in his office, but I was more worried that my heat was still going on.

No one I had spoken to had their heat last this long. So what was wrong with me? I hadn’t brought it up to Fin as he had so much on his plate at the moment with talking with my previous Alpha. He and Harlen were going to be going to get him and his Luna tomorrow. I worried that when he saw the mark on Fin’s neck that he would try to kill him.

I had tried to get him to let me go with him so that I could help protect him. Fin had assured me that Harlen and the deltas that he was taking with him would be sufficient. I wanted to protest, but Fin just smiled and kissed me on the forehead. Which sort of pissed me off, but I knew that being in heat made me hormonal and so I let it slide. Fin knew I was a great warrior. So if he needed me he would take me.

Bella had been around me more since it was getting closer to my ceremony. She was showing me what all she had been doing in the absence of a Luna. Most of everything that she showed me was what my previous Luna had done. But then there were some things that Bella showed me that happened behind closed doors.

“Bella, you are a goddess send. If I didn’t have you to show me all of this, I would be the worst Luna in all of Cairn.” I giggled as she showed me another thing with the financial books.

“You would never be the worst Luna, Nikita. Fin would be able to show you this if I wasn’t here. But I’m glad that I’m the one to be able to do this with you.” Bella smiled at me before she sat back in the chair and stared at me. “But I do have a question for you.”

I turned to her and dropped the pen before stretching out my muscles. It had been a long day and Fin hadn’t mindlinked me or spoke to me since he went into the meeting.

“Okay, I might be able to give you an answer.”

“I’ve been told by some of the other she-wolves that you have been in heat a little longer than normal. Is this your very first heat?” She was like my mother in the way that she looked after me and the way she treated me.

“No, I’ve had heats before and my Alpha would send me and any of the other unmated females away to keep the males from us. Which would be the reason I didn’t go into heat when I first met him. The previous month I had been in my heat.”

Bella laughed, which caused me to tilt my head in curiosity. What did they do with their unmated females? Didn’t they send them away? Why did each pack have to be so different?

“Hon, I don’t know what your alpha was doing, but those small heats are nothing but signaling your mate. It’s more like a beacon to help find your mate. Since you weren’t around Fin, I’m not surprised that you wouldn’t have snapped at every male that wasn’t your mate.”

Thinking back, I remembered the day before my seventeenth birthday. I had been out on a run with a few other female pack members and I thought I had caught the scent of another wolf. Come to think about it, that was the same day that Fin had mentioned smelling my scent. Was my body calling for him like Bella had said?

“Fin did mention smelling my scent before he had met up with the other rogues and then Alpha Nolen. Do you think that my body was signaling him?” I questioned her as she sat back in her chair and contemplated on what I had just told her.

“It could be. Knowing him, he didn’t even try to see where the scent was coming from. He had always been a cautious boy. If he wasn’t he might have been able to find you sooner. The closer you are to getting your wolf, the more your heat becomes stronger to try to find your mate.”

“So since you don’t send the unmated females that go into heat away, what happens when the other males are around? Don’t they try to fight for them?” I genuinely was curious since I would be taking over the pack in the next day or two.

“Well, if they have a mate in our pack, then him being around her would keep the others away. But if she didn’t the female would keep the ones who weren’t her mate from her. I’ve seen a few males get on the wrong side of a female when she was in her heat.” Bella laughed again as she stood and went to check on Tobey in the corner of the office that we were working in. This would be my office once I took over. “Besides if the male was raised right, he wouldn’t try to bother a female that wasn’t his mate.”

The young pup in the corner played with his figurines as his mother taught me what would be expected of me. Sydnie had come to like me since I first came to the pack. She had been weary of me and then I had to earn her trust after Jade and Harmony started telling the entire pack about what she had overheard. Sydnie was very fond of Fin. Luckily, she wasn’t in the pack but she had been told about what had happened.

Some of the pack still didn’t know if I could be trusted and that was okay because I intended to earn that back somehow. Then there were others like Bella and Harlen that knew that I could no longer lie to him or keep secrets since he was inside my head. And when he was inside my head when he was fucking me. Damn!

You’re thinking about me again my feisty wolf.I jumped when his voice entered my mind. I must have really been pushing my thoughts to him since he decided to talk to me while he was in a meeting with is Beta and Deltas. He was coming up with a game plan to make sure he nor I would get hurt during my previous alpha’s stay.

Shouldn’t you be concentrating on what your guard is telling you?
