Chuckling at his comment, I turned to ignore his presence and picked up my iced latte from the counter and looked around for a table.

“What are you doing?”

“Since you never answered my calls, I thought we could have the date here,” Esteban insisted.

Poking out my lip, I rolled my eyes, sat back, and opened my Kobo reader. “My friends are coming, so you should leave before they get here.” I searched the store in anticipation for Sanya to get here.

“They're not coming.”

“What?”

“Sanya and Raya aren’t coming.”

I nibbled on my top lip. “How do you know?”

“I talked to them about our date.”

I blew out a breath. “Esteban, we are not dating, boyfriend and girlfriend, or any type of relationship,” I told him as I lifted my drink to take a sip.

“One date and I will leave you alone.”

“Fine,” I acquiesced. My mouth pressed into a thin line.

Standing up, he stretched his hand out to me. “Right now.”

I choked on my drink. “Right now?” No way. Was he serious?

“But I’m not dressed for a date! I planned on running some errands and hanging with my friends.”

“You look fine to me.”

I looked down at my blue jeans, crop top, and sandals. My hair was an uncontrolled mess in a silky wrap.

“Emersyn, anything you wear only enhances your beauty.”

He held the door open, and we stepped out of the coffee shop. I was astonished to see a stretch limo waiting. “Please tell me that’s not your ride.”

“Emersyn, I will never apologize for my wealth.”

I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. “I didn’t ask you to.”

“Then let's go.” He waited for me to climb in, then he followed, sitting close to me. I picked up my ringing phone to see Sanya’s incoming call.

“Yes, Sanya,” I dragged out, hearing her laugh hysterically.

“Sorry, babe. He called Gerald to get my number,” Sanya said.

“I hate you.”

“No, you love me. Enjoy yourself and give him a chance.”

Out the corner of my eye, I could see Esteban watching me on the phone.

I sighed heavily. I took in what she said. There was no way Esteban was going to just go away. So, this once, I would stop fighting his attempts to see me. Besides, it wouldn’t go anywhere after this one date.

“Call me later, Sanya.”

“Bye, babe, and remember to let him spoil you.” Giggling, she hung up, and I started to put the phone away when Esteban took it out of my hands.
