Yawning, I could barely keep my eyes open from another night at Esteban’s, where he gave me another tour of his bedroom and eventually we headed to his club and hung out. He had to sign a few papers and I stayed in the back watching from the cameras. At one point the girls came and we drank and danced a little while the men hung together. When he told me we were official, I wanted to tell him to slow down, but being on a specific timeline never mattered to him and I liked feeling the freedom of just going with the flow.

“Emersyn, did you hear me?” Louise asked.

It was a brisk sunny day, so I had decided to walk to work. “Sorry, I'm tired. What did you say?”

Louise drew nearer, grabbing her drink. “Are you alright?”

“Exhausted, long night,” I said with a heavy sigh. I cracked my neck.

“Would it have anything to do with a Mr. Esteban?”

I loaded more change in the cash register. “Maybe.” I rang up a few pre-orders and packed them.

“I like him for you.”

I bagged up a few more books. “He’s okay.”

“Okay? Girl, that man has you wide open.”

Laughing, I waved her off. “Louise, nobody has me open.”

“Please. I know a girl in love.”

“He’s alright.” I extended my hand to take a few books out of her hand.

“Sure, Jane,” Louise jokes.

The front door dinged, alerting someone was coming in. I moved my coffee to the back counter and smiled at the flower arrangement.

“Well, I know I haven't done anything to receive flowers,” Louise said with a loud laugh.

“Looking for Emersyn Randolph,” the delivery driver requested as he put the flowers on the counter.

“That’s me.” I picked up the card to read. Be ready at eight, baby. Esteban. Giving the driver a tip, I took in the red and yellow roses.

Louise stickered a stack of books. “Like I told you, wide open.”

“Is it weird to have these intense feelings with him so fast?”

“Only if he’s giving you red flags. But from what you’ve said, everything is flowing well.”

“They are, and my last relationship was nothing like me and Esteban.”

She winked her left eye at me with a grin. “A relationship. He makes it easy to just be you.”

“Yes, sweet hangover.”

“So happy for you, Emersyn. Love looks good on you.”

“Thanks, Louise.”

She taps her hands on the counter. “Since he wants you ready by eight, you can leave early today and I can lock up.”

I clasped my hands together and leaned forward. “I can't do that.”

“Yes, you can.”

“Are you sure?”
