“Emersyn’s a sweet girl. Try not to fuck it up. Sanya will drag all of us into your fight.”

Remington knew I never put my personal business out for everyone to comment on, so if anything changed with Emersyn and me, they’d be the last to know. My dating reputation wasn’t the best. I usually only called women up for specific events to have on my arm. Later I’d treat them to a night with me and send them away until the next time.

“Only fight I plan on having is where Emersyn is going to be sleeping at night.”

Remington got up from the chair. “All right, Mr. Suave, are you coming to the bar?” He lifted his cell phone to check the time.

Closing down my computer, I finished cleaning up the mess on my desk. “No votes you need to look at?”

“I have the rest of the afternoon free. My baby is making dinner for us tonight.”

Chuckling that the single life no longer concerned him, I was partially proud of him. On the other hand, I wondered how his career would be if he was still single in politics.

Throwing my keys in my pocket, I picked up my phone and walked out behind him, laughing at one of his jokes.

Stirring my glass of stiff Scotch, I threw my head back in laughter as Gerald and Remington went back and forth about their women. Sanya came out of the back with a few employees, talking and motioning around the room.

Gerald sat up and sipped his glass of rum and coke. “You need a place to get customers for the sex club?”

“Remington offered up your place.”

“The club can be reserved for the interview process if you need a place less crowded,” Gerald responded.

“Thanks.”

“So, what woman has your mind preoccupied?” Gerald gestured to get a refill. One of the bottle girls stepped over and poured another drink for all of us.

Lighting my cigar, I pushed out the smoke. The tension in my body eased and I replayed my meeting with Emersyn. I took out my phone and sent a text to my team to get her number, even though she refused I had ways of making things happen. I planned on spending my life with Emersyn.

Me: I need the number asap Emersyn Randolph.

Eric: Yes Mr. Munoz.

Eric worked for me on private matters outside of my company for the past few years. He was trustworthy, and I got her number just ten minutes later. My smile spreads across my face as I send my text message.

Me: How is your day?

Future girl: Who is this?

I grimaced at her response.

Me: Your future. It’s Esteban.

Future girl: I highly doubt you can tell the future.

Me: Are you free for dinner?

Future girl: No.

Ignoring her response, I put the cigar out in the ashtray and took another sip of Scotch. “Where has your mind gone?” Gerald questioned.

“Emersyn.” I sent another text, and I told her I would pick her up for dinner tonight after I left here.

Closing out of the text thread, I heard a familiar voice.

Emersyn.

She looked beautiful standing with Sanya and the bartender near the employee door.
