“Yep,” Aiden said.“There’s not an issue with that, is there?”

Matt sighed.“I want to start by saying that I don’t have any kind of issue with your relationship.Camp is a place that can often lead to lasting connections, and if you guys have feelings for each other, I’m nothing but happy for you.”

“So why call us in here?”Aiden sounded a bit irritated now.

“Well, we often see relationships at camp, especially when the girls’ camp is active, but it’s unconventional for the counselors who are dating to be in charge of the same cabin.”

“Oh,” I said, frowning.“Is that a problem?”

“Well.I have some concerns that you may be a little distracted, if you know what I mean.”Matt grinned.“Bit hard to focus on the campers when you’re just staring into each other’s eyes.”

At that, we stopped staring into each other’s eyes.I somehow hadn’t noticed we were doing that until Matt made a joke about it.Aiden cleared his throat and ran his hand through his hair.“I suppose we are a little distracted.Do we need to change things up next session?”

“I was thinking that we would just switch your two cabins.Jay will be with Parker, and Aiden will be with Ben.”

Aiden frowned.“Shouldn’t I be with Parker?”

I elbowed Aiden, chuckling.“Please don’t say you’re still worried I’m going to hook up with Parker.I’m with you, Aiden. He’s not even my type.Or nearly as hot as you.”

“Hey.He’s hot!”Aiden protested.I shot him a look, and he grinned sheepishly.“Okay, thank you.I’m glad you find me hotter.”

Matt grinned.“That stuff is between you two.Basically, I was thinking it was a good fit in terms of your strengths and skills.Aiden, you and Parker are the outgoing ones, and you’re the more experienced counselors.Jay, you’re inexperienced, and Ben technically knows his shit, but he never looks up from his goddamn books. So I have someone to lead each cabin.”

Aiden chuckled.“All right.It makes sense.And you’re right.We get a little distracted by each other.Jay’s just too cute.”

“Thank you for understanding,” Matt said, visibly relaxing, as if he’d been worried we’d freak out.“And of course, there’s no issue with you guys being physically affectionate — dancing at our bonfire, holding hands, and all of that.I just need you less distracted when you’re alone with the campers.”

“Aye aye, captain,” Aiden gave him a little salute.

“I know it might be disappointing to not spend as much time together. But I think that this is for the best.”

“Not a problem. How did you find out? Were the campers spreading rumors about us?”I asked.

“Slater’s mom came to speak to me,” Matt said.“Thankfully, Aiden had mentioned her son’s homophobic comments, and I was prepared.”

“Mother fucker,” Aiden groaned.

Matt chuckled.“Well, I told her we have a zero-tolerance policy for any kind of bigotry. But it’s a bit hard to have to talk to a parent about why her precious son’s counselors are, er, being intimate, while her son’s in the next tent over.”

Well, that was embarrassing.I ducked my head, cheeks flushing.“Noted.”

“Keep the romance to the off hours and I’m fine with anything you guys want to do.Also, if you’re in a serious relationship, you can request couple’s accommodations. We have a few teachers who often work summers here, and some of them are married and bring their husbands. But with the girl’s camp closed, those two cabins are empty.”

I blinked, turning toward Aiden. Were we that kind of couple? The kind that requested a different lodging?I wasn’t entirely sure.

“We’ll talk about it and let you know,” Aiden said. Why was that worse than him just denying it or accepting it?I wasn’t sure. But I didn’t want to spend the next few days arguing about our future housing situation.

“Okay.Normally I wouldn’t offer it to a camp romance, but there’s something…” Matt shrugged, looking from me to Aiden.“I don’t know, it seemed like it was worth asking.”

Aidan was quiet as he led me out of the great hall, reaching out and threading his fingers through mine.“Well, upside is we can now be open about our relationship.Downside, we’re not going to spend as much time together next session.”

I sighed.“Unless we ask for a cabin of our own.”

“That is certainly tempting, but are we that kind of couple?Like we’ve only been together for a few weeks. It’s not like we’re in love and planning to get married.”

Not like we’re in love.Of course not.But why did my stomach feel all funny when he said that?

“Maybe some time alone in a hotel room will help us clear up,” I murmured.
