My eyes widened as he took my hand and helped me out of his car. He held my hand in his as we walked to my apartment.

He raised his hand at Rudy and grinned as he greeted, “Hey, Rudy!”

Rudy groaned and waved as he looked away and faced the entrance doors, trying his best to ignore Nate. With these two, it was either they didn’t really like each other or they could possibly have one of the best friendships.

He squeezed my hand as we entered the elevator and waited for it to reach my floor.

“You really don’t talk to Rudy anymore?” he asked and I looked away from his gaze.

“Hmm-hmm.” I shook my head, obviously lying and Nate laughed as he pressed a kiss on my head.

The doors opened and we walked to my apartment, I unlocked the door for him as I gestured inside.

“After you my princess,” I teased and his cheeks became pink as he placed his hand on his chest.

“What a gentleman,” he said sarcastically and I locked the door behind us, throwing my keys and bag on the kitchen island.

I walked over to the kettle and switched it on, the water started boiling and I retrieved two mugs for us.

“What kind of coffee would you like?” I asked him, rinsing the mugs. When I didn’t hear his response, I turned around and he was standing right behind me.

“Are we really just going to have coffee?” he asked and the way he was looking at me reminded me of that tiny cottage.

What was it with me and allowing this huge man in my space when I knew how attracted I was to him?

“What else could we have?” I asked, playing stupid to his suggestions and he smiled as he placed his hands on my waist, gently pushing me back so that I was against the counter.

“I could think of a few things that taste better than coffee,” he shrugged and I smiled, wrapping my arms around his neck.

“I’m curious.” I pursed my lips as I looked up at him, his chest making contact with mine, closing whatever little space that was between us. His fingers drew small patterns around my waist as he tilted his head to the side, his eyes darkening as he lifted his lips amused.

“About what?” he whispered, and I could feel him slowly pulling my dress up with his fingers, bunching up the material in his hands as his knee separated my legs, forcing me to sit on him.

Had I not still been wearing my heels, I would have been on my toes right now. And honestly, I would have gotten of rid this dress a lot quicker than he was.

“What could possibly taste better than coffee?” I breathed out as he moved my hips over his knee, the motion sending bolts of unexpected pleasure up my spine.

Shit, when was the last time I felt this good? And why is Nate taking his sweet time with it as well?

He smiled as he pressed his lips against mine, it wasn’t a demanding kiss it was rather sweet. A huge contrast between what his knee was doing to me down there.

“You, my angel.”

Chapter 21

Avery

“What are you doing here again?” I asked as he closed my office door, a huge smile on his face as he locked the door behind him. “Aren’t you supposed to be at practice?

“Practice ended an hour ago.” He sat down on the couch, spreading his legs out as his eyes swept me over as if he hadn’t seen me in days even though I had spent a few days at his place just this week.

“Then go home,” I laughed as I looked back at my laptop, going through the presentation slides.

“Home?” he asked as if it were a foreign name or place to him. “After I waited an hour for everyone to leave so that I could spend time with you? I don’t think so,” he pouted as he looked at the exposed brick wall, where I had hung up my few achievements and there was no such thing as way too many pictures of Nathaniel.

“But I’m working, Nate. You won’t really get to spend that much time with me,” I reasoned as I brought my leg up on the chair, leaning against it as I read the paragraphs on the next slide.

“Watching you work is alright with me, and you ought to take a break soon don’t you think?”
