“That’s okay,” I interrupted him, not wanting to hear questions about the past.Were we close? Did we talk? Did I fuck you in my former captain’s cottage?“Can I help you with something?”
Perhaps I was being a bit too cold, and he seemed taken back by my tone, but the fact that he did not remember me, while I pined away for him all these years, hurt me. I was being a bitch, but after all, he did leave me alone in that cottage once he was done with me.
I was a fool.
“Uhm, I heard you’re the sports marketing genius?—“
“Executive,” I corrected and he tilted his head to the side. “Sports marketingexecutive,” I stressed the word and he smiled nodding.
“Yes yes, and I am the star defender of the Lumberjacks. So I am here to offer my expertise assistance, to you, Missus—“ He let the word hang and honestly, he was being irritating. Why was he being like this?
The Nate IthoughtIknewwas carefree, and he was a gentleman, but this one was an ass and I didn’t like it.
“Avery is fine. And assistance for?” I asked and his smile grew as he put his hands out as if that were supposed to convince me.
“I know everything about the players, I know which brands they like and which brands they don’t like. So I think I could be ahugehelpin helping you bring us the best brands and become the most favored person throughout this company.”
He placed his hands on his waist and I raised my eyebrow as I pushed myself off my desk, mainly because my butt was starting to hurt.
“And is that part of your job description?”
“What?” he asked surprised and I smiled, letting out a soft chuckle.
“Oh, I thought, you know, that you were just thestar defender. So it caught me by surprise that you can also offer assistive roles. Your contract must be quiteextensive.”
His eyes widened and he pursed his lips as he struggled to choose his words.
“I mean, Iamthe star defender, but I believe my talent and hard work doesn’t only confine me on the ice. I’m quite well-versed in many things.”
“Hmm.” I nodded as I walked toward him and he stood his ground, charming really, but he had managed to piss me the fuck off in the few minutes he was here.
“I just thought you know, that we were assuming each other’s capabilities in our separate careers. It’s nice to know you’re well-versed in many things.”
“Yeah, so I could really be a great assis?—“
“My answer is no. Thank you though.” I pointed to the door as I walked around him and held the door open for him. “You may leave.”
He raised his finger, opening his mouth to say something and I gestured outside the door and he complied.
“I have a lot of work to do, Nate the star defender. If you don’t mind.” I smiled and he kept his mouth wide open as he left my office.
“Maybe we got off on the wrong foot. See I?—“
“No, we didn’t,” I sang as I closed the door ignoring whatever else he had to say.
Unfortunately, this marked the end of whatever reconciliation fantasy I had for us.
Nate was a dick.
Chapter 4
Nate
Avery was so mean! And I found it so hot.
It was easy to understand where she was coming from, I had jumped in and assumed she needed my assistance for a job she was more than qualified for, but really my intentions were just for us to get closer.
I wanted to know everything about her so that I could eventually get her. My plan was really simple, if Avery fell in love with me, Brian being thegreatbig brother and best friend he was, he wouldn’t object to us being together and he would accept us with arms wide open.
