And she’d told me that about four times in the last month. It had to be a hint.

“Good to know, sweetheart.” I unlocked the door with the keycard and held the door open for Shelby to enter first.

“Oh, my gosh Cade. You got us a suite?” Her eyes beamed as she took in the room. It had a sitting area, a small dining table, and a kitchenette.

“It’s our first New Year’s Eve together in far too long. I wanted it to be special.”

“And it will be amazing.” She went into the bedroom and stopped at the foot of the king-size bed. “Wow, this is fabulous.” Her eyes smoldered.

“I’m going all out, baby. Do you like it?”

“Are you kidding? I love it!” She wrapped her arms around my waist and looked up at me. “But I don’t want you to spend all your money on me.”

I chuckled and put my lips against her forehead. “Shelby, I can afford it. I’ve saved a lot of money not buying you gifts or taking you out. But now isn’t the time to talk money.” I had quite a bit in the bank. Enough to build our dream house, take expensive vacations and put however many kids we had through college. Assuming our offspring wanted to get a higher education like their mama. They could all be like me and work on the ranch.

“No money talk. I want you to kiss me silly.” She smiled with desire-filled eyes.

“Don’t have to ask me twice.” I pulled her into a hungry kiss and steered her to the sofa in the living room. I didn’t want to fall into bed just yet.

After a brief make-out session, Shelby had her head against my chest as I stroked her hair.

With the lightest touch, she ran her fingers over my hand, then lifted it to her lips and kissed it. “This is so nice. Just you and me together, and free to do whatever we want.”

“Maybe I should’ve rented the room for a few nights instead of one. We don’t have to go to Storm’s compound.”

“No, I want to. I’d like to meet Ella.”

“Is that right?”

“Mhm. And the other wives. And Olivia wants me to check out Hollywood. I think she misses seeing him.”

I snuggled her close. I wasn’t sure how it would go taking her to the KLMC clubhouse. She was curious about bikers and wanted to befriend Ella. Again, I wasn’t sure how that would go, but I appreciated her interest in how my life had been when she was in California.

“Are you hungry, baby?”

She seemed to ponder my question. “What did you have in mind? I might be a little hungry.” Her response was about what I’d expected.

“We can go out to grab a bite or we can order room service. The choice is yours.” I buried my face in her hair and inhaled the scent of her shampoo, feeling a little amorous.

“I just want to be here in your arms.”

“Room service it is.” I kissed the side of her head, then pulled up the menu on my phone.

We took our time scrolling through the pages. Everything looked good to me, but I had narrowed down my choices to three.

“Do you know what you’re getting?” she asked.

“Yep. What about you?”

“It’s a big menu.” She took my phone and jumped from page to page. “But the club sandwich looks tasty. But no mayo or fries. The bacon must be crispy, and I want extra lettuce.”

“When did you get to be so picky?”

She shrugged. “What are you getting?”

“I was thinking of a mushroom Swiss burger.”

She scrunched her nose.
