“It’s fine, Buster. I’m just tired and emotional. It’s been a long day.”

Martina unlocked the door, and I tapped in the security code. Cade had the cabin safer than Fort Knox, with security systems and cameras. Storm’s crew had installed a security system on the ranch. Even so, I sometimes feared something awful happening.

“Let’s get you comfy on the sofa,” Martina said. “Your ankles look a little swollen.”

“I should’ve worn flats instead of my favorite espadrille sandals. They just went better with my dress.” I lowered onto the sofa.

“And you looked gorgeous. Right, Buster?”

“Yes, ma’am. The prettiest woman at the party.”

“Good, boy. Now grab the pillows in the basket so I elevate her feet.” She removed my shoes and my feet screamed at me for being the dumbest pregnant woman on the planet.

“You’re the bestest friend ever.”

“I know.” She winked and took the pillows from Buster and placed them under my legs. “How does that feel?”

“Wonderful. Thank you.”

“Excellent.” She went to the kitchen, then returned with a bottle of water and a banana.

“You think of everything.” With a heavy sigh, I drifted off to sleep.

My eyes flashed open when I heard the door close and Cade’s voice.

“Cade?”

“I’m here, baby.” He kissed my head.

“Okay.” I closed my eyes.

“She’s completely wiped out,” Martina told him. “Did you fit all the gifts in your truck?”

“Nope. I’ll get the rest tomorrow.” He stroked my hair, and it kept me relaxed. “Did she jumpy to you?”

“Jumpy how?” Martina asked.

“I don’t know. She just seems off. It’s probably hormones.”

“I’m sure that’s it. I’ll go now, so I can help Debra clean.”

“Thanks for bringing her home.”

“Of course.”

“See you in the morning,” Buster said.

“Yeah. Night,” Cade replied.

The door closed, and then there was silence.

“Shelby, I’m going to carry you to bed, sweetheart.”

I blinked. “I can walk.”

“Don’t even think about it.” He lifted me as if I weighed nothing at all.

I kissed his neck. “My brawny man.”
