“Because his crew fucked up and killed my old lady and made my youngest son motherless.” Prez seethed as he lifted his beer to his mouth. The genuine pain in his eyes told me he wasn’t lying. “David is paying back a debt he’ll never be able to repay.”

“I’m sorry.” The words came out on their own, and my chest tightened, like I’d had the air knocked out of me. Shelby’s beautiful face flashed behind my eyes. I couldn’t imagine her not being alive. “Is that why you want to move to Burntwood? For your son, I mean.”

“There’s too many bad memories on the East Coast to stay.” The prez set his drink down and crossed his arms over his chest. He flicked his gaze at the prospect, who resembled him. I sensed he was the president’s son.

“Understandable.”

“And I wouldn’t be coming alone.”

“Is this your son?” I felt a little guilty if it was and we were discussing the young dude’s mama.

“One of them. My oldest from a different mother. But my club is coming with me.”

“I’m going to be straight with you. Burntwood doesn’t want a MC in town. Nobody rules us. If you try to move in and impose your will, you’ll get heavy-duty pushback.”

The president smirked. “So you’re Tomcat.”

“Yeah. And who are you?”

“David told me you were a member of the Hells Bells MC. Said you’d be fair but also ferocious.” He scratched his chin as he considered me. “Just the kind of man I can respect.”

“The club’s been dismantled. Ya gonna tell me your name or not?” I was about out of patience, and not looking to make small talk. Although, keeping me away from the ranch and distracting me from thinking about Shelby might be good.

“I’m Graves, president of Saint’s Outlaws MC. This is my SAA, Corpse.” He nodded at the man. “And the prospect is my boy, Curtis, but we call him, Asphalt. I left my youngest home.”

My phone vibrated in my pocket. I took it out and answered. “Yeah?”

“Cade, the fence on the westside is down.”

I jumped to my feet. “How bad?”

“Bad bad. Dozens have gotten out. Boone and your dad are coming.”

“I’m on my way.” I ended the call.

“Everything all right?” Graves asked.

“No. My herd got loose.” I turned on my heel and rushed to the bar. “Travis, I gotta go. Fencing is down.”

“I’ll come help.”

“Thanks.”

“We’ll come too.” Graves stood, and so did his SAA and son.

“Why?” I looked him in the eyes and didn’t see any malice in them.

“To help. If we’re moving to Burntwood, it’s not to cause trouble. We’re not saints by no means. You leave us alone and we’ll leave you alone. But if you need help, we’ll help.”

“Fine. I don’t have time for a speech.”

We bolted out of the building. Only God knew what had happened and how. My crew and I checked the fencing everyday. I was on the westside last night. Everything had been intact. And we’d upgraded all the old fences last month. Something wasn’t right.

The weeks had flown by, and I was ashamed to admit I hadn’t talked to Jake about our visit with my family or Cade.
