“That was the most powerful orgasm I’ve given you.” He went to pull out, and I stopped him.

“Not yet. I don’t want to break our connection.”

“I don’t want to crush your perfect little body.” With startling speed, he rolled onto his back and took me with him, while staying connected.

“You’ve really mastered that move.” I giggled and adjusted myself, then collapsed on him.

“How are you doing?” Cade stroked my back in a leisure manner, brushing the tips of his fingers up and down, as his deep breathing gently lifted and lowered me.

“Honestly, amazing. I don’t think I’ve had an orgasm since the last time we made love.”

“I find that hard to believe. They come so easily to you.”

“Easily with you.” I raised my head to look him in the eyes. “I can’t be without you Cade. You’re like oxygen to me.” A tear escaped my eye. “I can’t breathe without you.”

Cade rolled with me again.

“Now you’re just showing off.”

“I’m just trying to keep the mood light.” He kissed me. “All I want is for you to be happy.”

“I’m getting there.”

Getting there quicker than I ever imagined. But I’d be remiss if I didn’t admit I feared an unwanted pregnancy. I couldn’t bring myself to take Plan B once I was out of Jake’s control. It went against my moral beliefs. I had to have faith like my mama always told me when times were tough.

I would hold tight to my faith because I’d been on the birth control shot for years. It’d only been a month since my appointment. Everything I’d read said it should take a few months to conceive after a missed injection, and I would cling to that information and rebuild my relationship with Cade.

And pray I never saw Jake again.

Jake

The country was a dreadful place that was dirty and smelled horrid, specifically Shelby’s hometown. But I was prepared to scour the world, search in all the dingy, filthy corners to find her. That was how much I cared about her. She was mine and nobody would take her from me.

I increased the speed on my treadmill, focusing on the dirt road displayed on the monitor. I could run this route all day long. It was okay to look at, and it made me think of Shelby. I wanted to believe she was safe and not suffering at the hands of my enemies.

I’d taken to spending most of my free time in my home gym, while I had the few men I had left, working to find Shelby. It was too dangerous for me to leave my hideaway. A risk I couldn’t take.

Sweat dripped down my face.

My heart chugged against my ribs.

Rage boiled in my belly.

I had to find her.

“Where in the fuck is she!” I pounded the deck, pushing myself to my limit as images of her being assaulted scrambled my brain.

She was the most beautiful woman. Sweet. Sassy. Shelby had a pure heart and genuinely cared for others. She’d grown updifferently than me, unspoiled by wealth and the people who rule the world. Social statuses meant nothing to her. I envied her free spirit and simplemindedness.

Why the fuck are you talking about her as if she’s dead? Shelby is alive!

I pushed the stop button as my legs gave out and barely made it to the bench, where I collapsed on it.

“Sir, are you okay?”

I turned toward Elliot’s voice and gasped for air. “Yes. Any updates?”
