It didn’t matter. I just needed to down some caffeine, throw on my clothes, and rush to my sister’s house to change so I could get to work.

“My sister!” I said, nearly dropping the grip I had on the towel.

Aiden was standing in front of me, pouring liquid from a bottle of creamer into a cup of coffee. But my words froze his movements.

“Your sister?” he asked when I didn’t clarify.

“She’s going to wonder where I was last night.”

He shrugged and set down the creamer. “So tell her.”

“You don’t understand. My sister’s a total goody-two-shoes. She’ll be seriously disappointed in me.”

He set the coffee cup in front of me. “Are you sure about that?”

I took a sip while I thought about it. He was right. Hannah and I had the same strict upbringing, but she was human.

“Something’s been going on with her and that grumpy guy on your crew,” I said. “The one who stays to himself.”

Aiden’s gorgeous brown eyes widened at that. “Tucker?”

I nodded. The more I thought about it, the more it made sense that they might’ve done more than kiss. And he’d dumped her afterward, which explained why she was avoiding him.

“I’ll kill him,” I said.

“Whoa.” Aiden held up a hand. “Let me talk to him first. If any ass kicking needs to be done, I can take care of it.”

I couldn’t help but smile. “My hero. I’ll talk to him without killing him, I promise.” I set the cup back on the counter and slid off the stool. “I have to get to work, though. I’ll see you there.”

By the time I was dressed, Aiden was standing in front of me, an egg and bacon sandwich sealed up in a plastic zipper bag. “For breakfast. Pastries are great, but you need some protein to keep you going.”

I stared at the sandwich. When was the last time someone took care of me? It had been forever. It almost brought tears to my eyes.

To keep them at bay, I grabbed the sandwich and rose on tiptoe to kiss him goodbye. “I’ll see you at the job site.”

“And tonight,” he said. “And every other night. And weekends. In fact, set all your free time aside. You’re going to be spending it with me.”

I liked the sound of that.

EPILOGUE

TINLEY

“We have an announcement.”

My sister Hannah blurted that out almost as soon as we sat down to dinner. Tucker had grilled burgers for both families, including our four-year-olds and my and Aiden’s eighteen-month-old. It was probably our last backyard cookout before the weather turned cold.

Tucker laughed. “You didn’t even make it to your first bite.”

“We were going to wait until after dinner to tell you,” Hannah explained.

“We wanted to tell you together,” Tucker added.

“Little brother,” their four-year-old, Jake, said, patting his mom’s belly.

Both Aiden and I gasped. “You’re pregnant?” I asked.

Aiden added, “And it’s a boy?”
