I let him put his hands on my shoulders and push me out into the living room in front of him. Dr. Price and Zane are waiting for us there. Zane steps toward me and I narrow my eyes. “Still in a stabby mood?” he asks with a wince.

“Who got stabbed?” Nox walks in from a hallway I’ve never been down and I frown. I didn’t even realize he was home.

Dr. Price pulls out a beautiful silver knife that belongs in the sheath in my bra. He holds it out hilt first. I’m surprised when he lets it go easily. Tucking it back into its sheath, I smile brightly at him. “Thanks!”

If someone threatened me with a knife and stabbed it into one of my belongings, I would have kept it. I guess some people are more forgiving than I am. “Can we talk now that you’re calm and sober?” Dr. Price asks.

“Hold on. You keep a knife in your bra?” Nox asks, incredulous.

I look at him through slightly slitted eyes. “Of course. I never leave home without at least five weapons.”

“You’re joking, right?” Nox asks, looking over my body inquisitively like he’s trying to decide where I’m keeping them.

I frown. “I never joke about weapons. Don’t worry, I remember the rules. Only stabbing in the house, no shooting.” I nod at him because that’s what he told me. “I’m still surprised you don’t make people leave their weapons at the door. Back home, we’d shoot someone without question for that.”

Nox’s eyes widen. “I thought you were joking about that.”

I glare at him. “I just told you I never joke about weapons.”

Dr. Price steps between us to grab our attention. “That’s not important right now. We need to talk about what happened.”

“Oh, that,” I say, looking away.

“Yeah. That,” Sloane says quirking one of his low brows.

I sigh. “So I guess my dad put Luca in charge of my retrieval and he sent Ethan’s guys. It’s honestly no big loss. Desmond and Wade were both amateurs. They won’t be missed either, so that’s a plus.”

“Why don’t you tell us everything from the beginning?” Nox asks.

I don’t pull away when he takes my elbow and leads me to the couch. He sits down next to me and Dr. Price takes the seat on the other side of me. Zane sits on the floor in front of me while Sloane leans against the door frame.

I take a minute to think. “I vaguely remember telling you most of it last night. When I was seven, the Moretti’s started sending men to kill me. When I was nine, you stopped them.” I look over at Dr. Price and frown. “I became kind of obsessed with you. I followed along with your entire career. It’s pretty pathetic, but I feel like I owe you so much since you saved me, even if you didn’t know about my existence.”

I look away, focusing over on Sloane. “Anyway, my dad started making plans for me to marry Luca, who is just awful. Luca Marino is a forty-year-old who has never been arrested, but all the girls talk about him. He’s raped and sexually assaulted so many of the girls at the clubs my dad owns, and they’re all terrified to come forward because he’s the underboss. I couldn’t marry him. So I hacked into the university’s database and enrolled myself into classes. I just wanted to feel safe, and I knew I would with Dr. Price close by.

“So I came here. I knew my dad would figure out where I was, but I didn’t expect him to put Luca in charge of finding me. He must have gone through my room and seen the closet.” I glance over at Nox. “So yeah, Wade and Desmond tried to kidnap me and take me back home. I don’t think everyone knows just how much Enzo has taught me.”

Dr. Price clears his throat. “So that brings us to Enzo Carro. Why exactly is he coming to our house?”

I throw my thumb over my shoulder to point at Nox. “He invited him. I would have set up a meeting in some remote location. I mean, I love the guy, but he’s not the kind of person you invite to meet your friends.”

Zane growls, “You love him?”

I smile at him. “Not like that. He’s like an uncle to me. He would and has killed for me. He actually asked if I wanted him to kill all of you.” I smile softly, knowing how much Enzo cares about me.

“He didn’t ask that!” Nox disagrees.

I raise a brow at him. “He asked if I need him here now when you spoke. He was asking if I was in danger and needed you gone.”

“The fucking Slayer asked if he should kill us. This is just perfect,” Dr. Price mutters.

I wince. “Don’t call him that when you meet him. He hates that name. Reminds him of Buffy.”

A dry chuckle leaves his throat. “Enzo ‘The Slayer’ Carro watches Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Why am I surprised at this point?”

“And this is the guy your dad had guarding you?” Zane asks incredulously.

I nod. “Yeah. Enzo and I’ve always been close. He’s like a second cousin, or something, of my mom. He’s a good guy.”
