Her jaw clenches. “Because Zane doesn’t have a shirt on. Now back off or I’ll stab you.”

I already suspected it, but having her confirmation still throws me for a loop. He let her see him without a shirt on. He never takes his shirt off around us. Even in situations where he gets messy during a job, he’d rather throw a hoodie over his dirty shirt than take it off in front of us. I glance down her body before meeting her eyes. “How would you stab me? There’s nowhere you could possibly be hiding a knife in that.”

She chuckles, a dark sound stepping into my space, and I suddenly feel more like the prey than the predator. Her smile is dark and completely addictive. “I may look up to you, Dr. Price, but if you try to go into that room, I will stab you, and I won’t feel guilty about it.”

I probably shouldn’t push her. She’s proven over and over againthat she’s a dangerous person, but I just can’t help myself. I reach past her for the doorknob. She moves so fast that I almost don’t see as she reaches behind her head to pull a chopstick from her hair. Her arm moves down in an arc so fast I don’t have a chance to pull away. The wickedly sharp hair accessory goes straight through the fleshy part between my thumb and pointer finger. “Fuck!” I shout, staring down at the fucking weapon she’d been wearing in her hair that’s now sticking out of my hand.

Nox and Sloane run up the stairs just as Zane’s door opens, and he’s standing there, shirtless, in just a pair of boxers. Before I even get a chance to look at him, she throws herself at him, wrapping her body around his left side, glaring at me where I’m now leaning against the wall with my wrist held in my other hand. Zane looks between me and her. “What the fuck happened?”

I narrow my eyes at his accusation. “She stabbed me in the hand!”

She nods when everyone turns to look at her before she looks up at Zane. “He tried to go in the room. I warned him I would stab him because you weren’t dressed and he still tried to open the door.”

Zane turns to glare at me. “What the hell is wrong with you?”

I frown and shrug. “I wasn’t actually going to open the door. I didn’t expect her to really stab me.”

Nox huffs, “Come on, let me take a look at that.” He turns and hurries back downstairs.

The girl looks up at Zane. “I’m going to go with them. I don’t think I hit anything too important, just some muscle, but I just want to make sure.”

He gives her a nod, leaning down to kiss her softly on the lips. “I’ll grab a shirt and I’ll be right down.”

She covers him from our view until he backs into the room and closes the door. I almost feel guilty when she scowls at me, placing her hands on her hips. “Get down stairs so Nox can look at you.”

“Oh, now you’re worried about me?” I huff, turning to go downstairs.

“You deserved it. Cocky bastard,” she mutters under her breath and I pretend to not hear her since I don’t want to get stabbed again.

Sloane comes down behind her quietly, which is unusual for him. He’s been so quiet the last few days I was starting to get worried about him. I think he’s just stressed out about exams coming up. There isn’t much I can do to help. He said he had the material down and that Viviana is actually a great tutor.

Nox already has the medical kit laid out on the dining room table when we walk in, and he ushers me into a chair. Sitting next to me, he looks at my hand, frowning at the chopstick still sticking out. “I don’t think she hit anything important,” Nox says, but I’m too busy watching Viviana tug the other chopstick out of her hair and shaking it out as it cascades down her back.

She twirls it around her fingers and she looks even more dangerous than she did while she was stabbing me. The shirt she borrowed falls down to her mid-thigh, and I find myself wondering if she’s wearing anything under it. The burning pain in my hand makes me snap my head back to Nox as I snarl at him. He’s holding the bloody chopstick in one hand as he holds gauze to the wound on my hand with the other. He ignores my cursing as he continues to put pressure on my hand. “I’m going to go ahead and give you four stitches. Two on both sides. I don’t think you really need them, but they’ll help it heal faster.”

Zane walks into the room, now wearing a shirt and pants. He wraps his arms around Viviana, pulling her back to his chest as he watches Nox pull out everything he needs to give me stitches. Zane presses a kiss to her cheek before he pulls away and picks up the bloodied chopstick, heading into the kitchen.

Sloane slowly makes his way over to stand next to her. He reaches a hand up and gently touches her elbow. “Are you okay?”

Her eyes rise to his and she nods. “Yeah.”

I huff, “I was the one who was stabbed and you’re asking if she’s okay? Unbelievable.”

Sloane narrows his eyes at me. “You deserved it. Why would you even joke about that? You know how Z is. She saved your life, as far as I’m concerned.”

I roll my eyes. “I wasn’t going to open the door.”

“You just wanted to assert your dominance like an asshole and now you’re pouting about the consequences,” Nox says as he tiesoff the last stitch.

I purse my lips because, well, he isn’t wrong. That’s exactly what I was doing. I still didn’t think she would stab me.

Viviana grunts, “I don’t get you guys. You’re all trying to get stabbed. First, Nox jumps out of the shadows in my dorm like a damn ghost, and now you literally baited me into stabbing you.”

Zane walks back in with her now clean chopstick, handing it off to her. “These are cool. They’re like ice picks, but thicker.”

She smiles at him and nods. “Yeah, Enzo gave them to me for my fourteenth birthday.”

She puts the blunt ends of both onto her mouth as she tugs her hair back up into a bun and carefully pushes the sticks back into the mass. Finally, her eyes find mine. “Are you mad at me?” I glare at her. “Okay, obviously you’re mad.” She nods like I answered her.
