“Same as usual. People are excited to play and end up losing big later.”

Eunice and I got along great from the start, unlike Angelina. Eunice wasn’t blinded by the prestige of the casino. All she cared about was working hard and taking care of her family. I admired her and knew we’d be great friends outside the casino had I been staying permanently.

The crowds swelled throughout the day, and a few people were kicked out for disorderly conduct with the servers. Stretching my arms, I yawned, seeing it was almost noon and time for my break.

“Where are you eating today?” Eunice asked.

“The lounge.”

“Me too, I brought mine.”

“Mind if I join you?”

Eunice grinned. “Sure. Come on, let's go before it gets too busy.”

Eunice led the way out, passing the guards and locking the doors behind us. I smiled as I listened to her story about her youngest son not wanting to get up for school in the mornings as we made our way to the elevator.

“Hi, Mr. Calabresi.” Eunice waved at our boss.

Since the night Vincenzo had dropped me off, I’d made it a point to stay clear of him. Aside from the sexual tension between us I tried to deny, I felt like he knew I was up to something.

Vincenzo paused as he talked to his assistant. Angelina gave me a death stare. The woman thought everybody wanted him.

He didn’t speak but tipped his chin at Eunice and continued to his office.

Eunice puckered her lips. “He is so cute. If I was younger and not married with a kid…”

“Eunice, please.” I snickered.

“Girl, you better watch him,” she said with a bounce in her step.

“Watch him for what?”

She slid me a knowing glance. “I see the way he looks at you.”

“I have a boyfriend,” I reminded her.

“Boyfriend, not husband,” she said, grabbing her lunch from her locker.

“My boyfriend and I are committed,” I replied as we headed for the canteen.

“I wish I could go back to a simple dating lifestyle,” she sighed.

I nodded. “Me too.”

I paid for my salad and water, and we found a table in the back corner of the canteen.

We ate lunch, and I listened to Eunice talk about her love life.

“Miss Jolie.” A security guard appeared beside me.

My heart caught in my throat. “Yes?” Did something happen to Mark? How did they know about his plan to rob the casino?

“Mr. Calabresi needs to see you,” the security guard said, his voice giving nothing away.

I looked at Eunice, who shrugged. I set my napkin down on the table. “Do you know what he wants?”

“No, ma'am.”
