I tucked my purse into the chair next to me. “I came here with some of my coworkers.”

“I’m happy for you, Nyla.”

I smiled at my friend. “Aw, thank you.”

“You’ve been through a lot. Losing your parents and having to drop out of school because of your crazy uncle’s rules.”

I sighed. “I’m glad my parents taught me to always trust my instincts.”

“He’s low down.”

The server arrived with our drinks, and we placed our orders.

“He’s sexy,” Cassandra murmured, pointing behind me.

I glanced over my shoulder, and my eyes widened as I saw Vincenzo. “Shit,” I muttered, shifting in my seat.

“What's wrong?”

“That’s my boss.”

“So?”

“So, nothing. I’d just rather he didn’t see me.”

I risked another glance over my shoulder. Vincenzo was with his brother and an older woman.

“Here you go, ladies.” Our server placed our meals in front of us.

I smiled. “Thank you. Can I get a to-go box?”

Cassandra frowned. “You're leaving?”

“I forgot I have to cover for someone.” I pulled some money from my purse and placed it on the table. Cassandra quickly finished her soda and jumped up to leave.

I waved her off and bent to hug her. “Stay. I’ll call you later.”

She eyed me skeptically. “Are you sure you're all right, Nyla?”

“Yes, I promise. Enjoy your food.”

The server returned with my to-go box, and I quickly left the restaurant. Pulling out my phone, I dialed Mark, but the call went to voicemail. I wasn’t looking where I was going as I headed into the casino and dropped my food as I ran into someone.

“What the hell?” Angelina screeched.

“Sorry,” I mumbled, bending to grab the to-go box.

“Look where you’re going,” she hissed.

“I said sorry. Relax.”

She jammed her hands on her narrow hips, glaring at me. “I should report you.”

“Report me for accidentally bumping into you?” I asked in disbelief.

Angelina pointed her finger in my face. “Vincenzo doesn't see it, but I know you’re trouble.”

“Bitch,” I muttered as she stalked away.
