“I’m going to kill her.”
I heard yelling in the background.
“Sir, I think you should listen to her before doing anything rash.” Carter pleaded.
“Put her on the line.”
Elio and Renato listened to the call on the speaker.
“Nyla, it's Mr. Calabresi,” Carter said.
“Let me go!” Nyla screamed in the background.
“Nyla,” I growled. “Do you want to be buried next to your uncle and parents?”
Her gasp of shock could be heard over the line. “Kill me, and you’ll never get your money. Cora was right about you.”
“That bitch threatened your fiancé!” Renato fixed his gaze on Elio.
Nyla was making enemies of everyone today.
“What did she say?” Elio snatched my phone from my hand.
“Watch your mouth,” I gritted.
My brothers’ eyebrows hiked in surprise at my rebuke.
“Cora came into the café and told me Vincenzo was calmer than his brother, but it was a lie,” Nyla snapped.
Hearing her compare me to my brothers was like a hit to the gut.
I took the phone from Elio. “I’m heading back to the condo now.”
I ended the call and left the basement with Renato and Elio trailing behind me.
Nyla had pushed my buttons from the moment she entered my casino. She had no idea who she was playing with.
“Try to be calm, little brother,” Elio suggested.
We jogged to the car and climbed in, pulling up the camera feed on my phone, watching as Nyla jerked from Carter's grasp and paced in frustration. She rubbed her arms as tears flowed down her cheeks. A strange sensation squeezed my chest. Her tears shouldn't bother me.
“Take me to the condo,” I directed my driver.
Another call came through on my phone.
“Vincenzo, I heard you left for the day. What happened?” Angelina asked.
“You don’t get to question me, Angelina.”
“You have meetings lined up, and as your assistant, I should be informed if I need to reschedule.”
She had a point.
“Reschedule my meetings for the day after tomorrow. I have a family thing.”
“Is something wrong? Maybe I can help,” Angelina responded.
I hung up without responding.
