“Vincenzo is just checking up on me,” I answered.
“You two probably stay making googly eyes all day,” Sonya teased me.
“What about kids?” Rena pried, and I hadn't even thought about having kids with him.
“We haven’t talked about kids.”
Sonya reminded me, “You should; you're married—and more than likely, having unprotected sex.”
“Are you scared to have kids with him?” Rena asked.
“Honestly, I never thought about kids—or being with him after getting the money back.”
“So, you two are going to stay married?” Cassandra asked, confused.
“Uhm, we haven’t talked about long term.”
“How about we stop hounding the girl and have some fun today. Mckayla’s on deadline so she can’t be here,” Cora insisted.
“What do you have in mind?” Rena poured another round of drinks.
“A trip would be great, maybe Las Vegas or Hawaii,” Cora remarked.
“Just the women?”
“I want my husband with me,” Rena said.
“For someone that always complains about their husband, you sure stay under him every chance on the hour,” Sonya jokes.
“Like Renato doesn’t stalk you.” Rena reached out and pushed her on the shoulder.
Waving her comment off, I said, “I agree, a trip with our husbands would be fun, and Cassandra you can invite Ralph, all expenses paid.”
“He blocked me.” Cassandra pouted.
The entire room burst into laughter. Sonya extended an arm around Cassandra’s neck, pulling her into a hug. “Sorry, friend. He’s missing out.”
“Glad you found love.”
“Love.”
“Yeah, you love Vincenzo, or is it just lust because of the dick?” Cassandra picked up the plate of croissants.
“He’s my husband.”
“A husband that you’ve grown close with over the past few weeks,” Cassandra emphasized.
“Can we change the subject?”
“She’s right, we're here because Rena wanted all of us to come together and connect.” Sonya pointed around the room.
“Sorry.”
“Never apologize for how you feel,” Cassandra said.
Rena probed. “What are your plans for work?”
“I used to be in college, then I dropped out, but I have a love for photography.”
