“Gianney, how did you get my number?” Standing near the corner of the entryway, I peered up at the girls smiling, lifting a finger to give me one moment.

“Nyla, it’s not hard to find you,” Gianney remarked.

“Why are you calling me?”

Gianney managed a slow disarming tone. “Something you should be aware of about your uncle.”

“My uncle.”

“He’s lying to you.”

“I can't talk right now.”

“Is he there?” he prodded.

I was pissed off at his nosiness. “Who?”

“Who else? the man of the hour, the one you let kill my best friend,” Gianney snapped.

“Mark got himself killed,” I grumbled.

“Does that help you sleep at night?”

“Gianney, you’ve been a great friend to Mark and me.”

Gianney chortled. “He’s already brainwashed you.”

“Mark put me in harm's way,” I preached.

Frustrated with the conversation, I leaned up against the wall, head lifted in the air.

Gianney’s accusations would have sent me down a spiral of revenge on anyone who hurt someone I loved, but after the time Vincenzo and I had spent together, I had realized our entire relationship was going down the wrong path.

“Meet me and I can explain more,” he says.

“Have you contacted Cono?”

“Rather not say over the phone.” Gianney’s line dropped, I exhaled walking back into the room, placing the phone on the table.

“Everything okay?” Cassandra asked, looking at me.

I put on a brave face, letting the thoughts of my uncle and Gianney disappear. “Fine. Did you get anywhere with the plans?”

“First, we had an idea if you’re on board,” Rena suggested.

“What’s the idea?”

“Well, Adelina is throwing you and Vincenzo a party, correct?” Cora inquired.

“Yeah, no exact date though.”

“Maybe we can combine the trip with the party,” Cora suggested.

“So have the party in another country or state?”

“You said that when you were growing up, your parents traveled and showed you the world. So, what’s the one place you all constantly visited that means the most to you?” Cora passed the computer to me.

“Wow, I hadn’t even thought to do something like that.” I searched for the locations on the map. I could only remember the one place my mom took us to every year like clockwork.
