Carter arrived at Lana’s salon and boutique on Michigan Drive. After closing the door, he escorted us inside, checked around, then stood off to the side. Vincenzo forced me to have extra-tight security while my uncle was trying to blackmail us.

Lana pushed her arms out for me, and I squeezed her close.

“Baby girl, you look so good. How long has it been?” Lana had done my hair for the longest time; only recently, after the entire Vincenzo debacle, I had stopped getting it done professionally and started managing it on my own.

“About four or five months.”

Lana sifted a hand through my hair. “Well, it looks like you kept it fresh.”

“I tried. You remember Cassandra.”

“Hey, Cassandra, how are you?” Lana quizzed.

“Lana, you’ve upgraded the salon since we last saw you.” Cassandra commented on the kids’ playpen in the back corner and large TV hanging on the wall.

“Trying to extend my clientele.” Lana motioned for me to follow to the chair.

“Still busy.”

Lana swung out a comb. “Love the noise, helps pass the time.”

“So, what are you getting?” Lana wrapped the cap around my neck, as I plopped down in the chair.

“Just a little refresh on some of my locks, have a dinner to attend.”

“I heard you got married. You finally got Mark to calm down?” she giggled.

Cassandra eye’s connected with mine.

“Actually, Mark and I broke up; I’m married to someone else.”

“Wait, you broke up when?” In shock, Lana's eyes opened wide.

“He passed away.”

She hugged my shoulders. “Oh, God, Nyla, I had no idea.”

“Thanks, it’s something I still have a hard time talking about.”

“So, you married another guy?”

Clearing my throat. “Vincenzo Calabresi.”

That same look of confusion was evident. “Vincenzo Calabresi, the billionaire?” she quizzed.

“Yes, but that’s not why I married him.”

“Shit, he’s fine.” She cursed, and I cackled at her flushed cheeks. Vincenzo’s extremely attractive, and I wouldn’t be a girl’s girl if I can’t acknowledge how his presence alone makes my panties wet.

“Thanks.”

“So, you and Vincenzo knew each other for a long time or something? He’s always seen on social media with other women—usually, some blond.” Lana pulled my hair out of my bun.

“Angelina’s his assistant.”

“Oooh, so you know about her.” Lana tapped me on the shoulder.

“She’s nothing to him.”
