“No. I’ve known him for fifteen years or so.”

“Interesting.” He says it in a way that makes it seem he is a little concerned about my friendship with Link.

We arrive at the auditorium and it’s packed. Mitch drives around a while before he finds a spot where he’s not afraid to park his car. I’m already regretting that I didn’t call and cancel. At least he isn’t wearing a suit tonight. He is still overdressed in a leather jacket and slacks. But I assume for him, that is casual. The entrance is a bit of a hike, but we make it and get in line behind fifty people all waiting to get inside. It’s one of several lines, and this one seems to be moving faster.

When I hear, “Hey, cheerleader,” I turn to see Link standing behind me. There are thousands of people here and he gets in line behind me? He’s wearing a leather coat too, but it’s soft, worn in, and looks really good paired with his jeans.

“What are you doing here?” I say slightly shocked to see him here.

“Going to see the best reunion tour ever.” He cocks his head at Mitch. “Hey, Mitch.”

“Link.”

“Allyssa and I went to see these guys the last time they were in town.”

“Right. So she said.”

A woman comes up to Link and takes his arm. Link smiles at her, and then at me. “You remember Officer Landis?”

The woman offers her hand. “Jessica.”

“Right. I didn’t recognize you out of your uniform.” She is wearing very tight jeans and a retro T-shirt from the band playing tonight. She looks cute and edgy, and I am strangely jealous of the fact she has her arm wrapped around Link’s.

“Yeah. They let us out once in a while.” She smiles at Mitch. “Hey, you’re…?”

“Mitch Redmond.”

“Right. Of course. I believe I pulled you over a month or so ago in that cute little race car of yours.”

Mitch laughs. “You actually gave me a ticket.”

“No favors. Not even for our lawyer friends.”

“I didn’t realize we were friends.” He says it in a way that tells me he’s noticed Jessica’s tight jeans, as well.

I look at Link and he shakes his head, then leans in and whispers in my ear. “I believe we just became obsolete.”

I laugh. “I don’t mind if you don’t.”

“Not in the least.”

Jessica turns to him. “We should all sit together.”

Link glances at me. “Sounds great.”

We find four seats together and Jessica and Mitch end up next to each other, with Link and me on the outside. Mitch gives Jessica all of his attention and I feel like a third wheel. Or maybe I’m a fourth wheel. I’m not sure where Link fits into the equation. Fortunately, the music is great and I try to enjoy the show while ignoring the two flirting people next to me.

When Jessica suggests we get a picture of the four of us, we stand and Link sends me a silent, “Yay, I love having my picture taken” look. We turn our backs to the stage and Jessica directs us all to lean in and be cozy. Mitch puts his arms around both me and Jessica and grins at the camera. I glance at Link and he gives me a wink.

During the mid-show break, Link suggests he switches seats with Mitch. Mitch is all too happy to oblige, and he and Link change positions.

Link smiles at me. “I was getting lonely over there by myself.”

“I’m sorry if Mitch ruined your date.”

He frowns “It wasn’t a date. She had an extra ticket and asked me to come because she knew I was a fan. And why are you here with him?”

“Because I told Mark I got tickets, and I wanted to gloat.”
