To make a bad situation even worse, he learns that the “thief” is actually Larz’s only son, Taran. A violent, unexpected storm soon strands everyone on Moravia, and in the middle of the first meeting between the brothers, the lights blink out and Taran is stabbed. When the murder attempts keep coming with alarming frequency, Kirstos faces a near-death experience of his own, and he finds to his utter dismay that he is also in terrible danger of falling in love.

Fate sweeps Kirstos from his comfortable life into an uncertain future–a transfer to Laltana and an unexpected love for the gorgeous, totally unsuitable, impossible Taran along with a chance at happiness that he could never have imagined.
