It’s fine.

This is fine.

“Was this your first kill?” Dante asked and Katerina glared at him.

“Shut up, Dante.” She snapped and he grinned.

“We should celebrate. You’re part of the club now. One of us.” He added and I stared at him in horror.

He leaned down, dipped his fingers into the man’s blood then ran them over my forehead.

“Simmmmmbaaaaaaaaa.” He said in a low voice and Hamish muttered under his breath as I heard a few snorts of laughter from others.

“I’ve always wanted to do that.” He said when Alejandro gripped his arm and started speaking in Spanish angrily.

What the actual fuck was wrong with the man? Did he just Lion King me with blood?

“Riley…” Katerina said, and I let out a breath, nodding.

“I’m okay. It’s just the adrenaline and shock. I’m fine, Kitten.” I whispered as I glanced at Hamish who was watching with interest.

“Let’s find Vinnie,” I said and she glanced at me once more before looking at the reinforced door.

“Can you break it down?” She asked and Dante came forward.

“On it. Might want to step back. The door is about to go bang!” He said with a cackle, and we all moved into the next room.

Alejandro looked at me and winced.

“Sorry. He hasn’t been out much lately, and he gets a little…” He searched for the word and Hamish; the ever so helpful ass, jumped in.

“Unhinged? Psychotic? Fruit loopy? I’d say he is a few screws short of a hardware store.” He muttered and Alejandro sighed.

“You have no idea.” He said as the man in question came back around the corner.

“I happen to love fruit loops,” Dante said with a pointed look at Hamish before the walls shook with the force of an explosion, and dust blew through the room.

“Let’s go get our guy,” Hamish said as he followed Katerina.

Fifty one

Katerina

The sound of muffled screaming came from the trunk as we drove down the dirt road, a truck following us with the dead bodies of everyone we had taken down.

Dante and Alejandro had stayed behind to take care of the property, making sure everything went up in smoke.

“So this man is your uncle?” Hamish asked as Riley glanced at me in the rear-view mirror.

I was still worried about him after what happened. It was one thing to watch people die, but completely different when you took that life.

It left a stain on your soul that would remain forever and I hated that he had to carry that weight now.

“Not exactly. We just call him Uncle. He is supposed to be retired. He was close friends with my father once.” I said and Hamish frowned.

“Where are we going?” He asked and I smirked.

“To his farm,” I said and both he and Riley stared at me with open shock.
