“So. Why are you working with Konstantin?” She asked and he frowned.

“I wasn’t. I was working for someone in Russia. They didn’t tell me their name. They just told me to give Konstantin what he wanted.” He stammered and she stood back, confused.

“I don’t understand. You are working with Egor and Konstantin to take me down, right?” She said and he laughed.

“I wasn’t working with them. I was working for them at my duress. They took my wife.” He said and her face dropped.

“Why? What did they want?” She asked as she began to pace.

“Paperwork mostly. Files on you and your family. Access to your trust account details.” He added and that got her attention.

“My trust account? Why did they want that?” She asked and he shook his head.

“I don’t know. All I know is I got a call from someone in Russia one day. A woman. She said if I didn’t do what she wanted, they would kill my wife. They sent pictures of her so I had no choice.” He said softly.

A buzzing sound came from the back room and Hamish frowned at Mikhail.

“What is that?” He asked and Mikhail shook his head as another came from the side.

“Alarms.” He said softly and Hamish swore.

“I’ll go check.” He said and before anyone could stop him, he disappeared through a door to the rear of the building.

“Who was the woman?” Katerina pushed and Victor shook his head.

“I don’t know. But I did overhear a conversation between Egor and Konstantin when they arrived. They were talking about the end of the Volkova line and the feud in Moscow. That’s all I know, I swear.” He said as an explosion shook the building.

“Hamish…” Katerina whispered as Mikhail checked the side door.

“Fuck. We have company.” He muttered and I grabbed Katerina as she went to go after Hamish.

“No. You stay with Mikhail.” I said firmly and she glared at me.

“I am not leaving Hamish.” She said and I smiled.

“I know. I’ll go get him. You stay with Mikhail, I know he can look after you when I cant.” I said softly, vowing to myself that after today, I was going to get Alexsei to teach me how to use weapons and Leo to step up our fight training.

“Riley…” She started and I gently shook her.

“No. Listen to me, Katerina. You need to stay safe. You. Not me. Not Hamish. Not anyone else. You.” I pressed my hand to her stomach.

“It’s not just you anymore,” I whispered, hitting home. I saw Mikhail's eyes widen over her shoulder as he pulled out his gun.

“Don’t take too long,” she whispered and I kissed her quickly and pushed her toward Mikhail.

“Take care of my woman, Mikhail,” I said and he nodded once.

I headed off in the direction Hamish went when another explosion shook the building followed by gun fire.

I grinned as my heart raced in my chest. I was about to enter hell.

Katerina

“We have to move. There is a way out this way.” Mikhail said as he gripped my arm and I shook my head, standing firm.

“No. I am not leaving without them.” I said as the glass on one of the upper windows shattered.
