“He said he loved you, didn’t he?” He smiled sadly and I nodded, swallowing the lump in my throat.

“How did you know?” I asked and he laughed, but it was a hollow sound.

“Anyone can see the way that man looks at you. It’s like you are the moon in his sky. Look, I get it. I understand loss, perhaps not the same kind of loss as you, but I do understand the need to protect yourself. I won’t push you, but I am telling you that I am not going anywhere either.” Leo’s hand dropped from my shoulder, lingering near my hand before he took a step back, looking over my shoulder at the locksmith.

“Here are your new set of keys ma’am. This is the invoice for payment. Let me know if you have any issues.” He said, handing me a shiny set of keys.

At least this was a nice hit of satisfaction to take my mind off everything. That asshole next door was going to have a rude shock when he got home.

We waited for the locksmith to leave before I jogged over to my place, got a pen and paper, and wrote the note for the stuffy asshole, smiling with satisfaction as I stuck it to his door.

“You are a cruel woman. But I like your style.” Leo said with a chuckle as I spun the keys around on my finger.

“Killing a man gives instant gratification. This is like a weird version of foreplay.” I said as I got back into Leo’s car.

“Somehow I think he feels the same way.” He muttered, making me curious.

“We need to head over to Rapture. It was the agreed upon meeting point.” I said and Leo nodded.

“So, what are you going to do about Riley?” He asked, pushing me back into the place I didn’t want to go.

“I honestly don’t know. He is too sweet to be a part of my world.” I said absently as I looked out the window.

“Perhaps. But then no one would suspect that you were running a mafia crime family either.” Leo said and I raised an eyebrow at him.

“What are you saying?” I said and Leo gave me a side glance.

“That maybe you shouldn’t judge a man before you let him in.” He said and I got the feeling he wasn’t just talking about Riley.

We walked into the club, and a waiter took us to a private room to the side and told us the Madden’s would be here soon.

“Why are we meeting here?” I asked Katerina as she walked straight to the mini bar, pouring herself a glass of scotch.

I had noticed the shift in her attitude and demeanor the minute we stepped into this place. She clamped down any form of emotion, her voice cold and hard as she spoke to anyone.

Her accent was also a little thicker, as if the persona she put on brought it to the forefront.

“Because Mikhail, Gabriel and Anatoly don’t trust me, with good reason and the Maddens are their new employers.” She said absently and I leaned against the wall, taking in the entire room.

I had been curious about the Maddens, knowing that Alfie was working with them. We hadn’t crossed paths in a few years, but I always liked the guy.

He was the only man who gave me a real challenge in the ring, and I had wondered why he no longer fought.

The door opened and Benjamin Madden walked into the room, followed by the man himself, Alfie.

His eyes met mine and widened as I grinned.

“Alfie. Good to see you mate.” I said as I held out my hand to shake his.

“What are you doing here?” He asked, taking my hand as his eyes shot to Katerina, clearly trying to figure out how we knew each other.

“Just helping a friend.” I said and Katerina pursed her lips slightly, the only sign that my words affected her.

“You still fighting?” Alfie asked and I nodded.
