“Sit down, dog. I am not going to shoot her in the café.” He snapped at Leo before he walked toward Katerina.

“What are you doing here, Alexsei? I should shoot you for what you ordered your men to do.” She snapped and his eyes went to her arm where the thick bandage peaked beneath her blouse sleeve.

“And what did I order my men to do?” He said softly as he stood before her.

“You know what you did. How many more men are you going to send my way? I am not going to back down.” She said as she looked up at the man.

“I didn’t send anyone your way. But you know as well as I do that my hands are tied in the matter.” Alexsei said and Katerina glared at him.

“Why are you here?” She snapped and he sighed.

“I’m here to tell you that Egor is in town. He had a meeting with Victor. I don’t know what it was about.” He put his sunglasses on.

“Why are you telling me this?” She said softly and he shrugged.

“Call it a professional curtesy and for my own reasons. You know that Egor doesn’t get along with my father. The turf war will only get worse.” He turned away and it was Hamish who surprised me by grabbing his arm.

“Did you say Egor? As in Egor Burgov?” He asked and Alexsei nodded.

“You’re my enemy, Alexsei. How can I trust you?” Katerina said as Hamish frowned.

“Sometimes an enemy is truly a friend. Do with the information what you will.” He said and Katerina snorted.

“You are no friend. You shot at me and tried to kill me a few days ago.” She said and I glanced at Leo who didn’t look surprised.

That must have been where they went. I didn’t realize just how bad things were and knowing people were actively trying to kill her terrified me.

“Ah, but I missed, didn’t I?” Alexsei said with a smile before he walked away.

“Only because you are a terrible shot.” Katerina muttered and I heard the man chuckle as he pushed open the door.

“How do you know Egor?” Katerina said as she turned to Hamish, her tone accusing.

“I do my research on people. He or someone driving his car tried to break into your house yesterday until I confronted him.” Hamish said and I looked at Leo.

This wasn’t good. There was no way I wanted her to go back to that place if people were trying to break in.

“You broke into my home,” Katerina said but I could see the hint of worry in her eyes.

“Yes. But I only wanted to piss you off, not kill you.” He said before his phone started ringing.

“Proffitt.” He said and I stored that away for later.

Hamish Proffitt. I knew a guy who could get me some information if I needed it.

“You can’t go back there, Kat. I don’t know the full extent of what is going on right now, but you cannot go back to your house right now.” I said as I watched more customers come in.

Lisa seemed to handle it but I knew it wouldn’t be long before she would need help and I had no other staff to cover me today. I couldn’t go anywhere with Kat.

“I am not afraid of Egor.” She said as she eyed the box of donuts sitting on the counter waiting for Hamish.

“I need to pay Victor a visit.” She said as she glanced at Leo.

“We need to get you back in the gym for more self-defense training.” Leo said as we both watched her smile and open the box.

“Soon. I have to figure out what Victor’s game is first.” She picked up a donut and took a bite, then put it back.

I groaned inwardly as I watched her do it with all six of them before grinning.
