“Oh, you.” She said as she tucked the gun back from wherever it was hidden.

“What has you all worked up?” I asked and she raised an eyebrow at me.

“The man I wanted to kill today wasn’t there.” She said and I laughed.

It was ridiculous but hearing so much violence coming from her pretty little mouth, knowing she was telling the truth just seemed…cute.

Not that I was going to tell her that.

“Did you enjoy my donuts?” I asked blandly and she shrugged.

“They were the boring kind.” She said before pushing open the door. I followed her and she looked over her shoulder at me.

“Sure. Come into my home.” She muttered and I grinned.

“Why are you alone?” I asked and she whirled on me, eyes wild.

“Why are you asking me so many questions, Hamish?” She said and I held my hands up in surrender.

“Because I was concerned. I know who you are, Katerina Volkova and I know who Egor is. I may think you are a prickly pain in the ass, but I also like you.” I said and her eyes widened.

“How do you know about me?” She asked, dodging the question I asked her.

“How about you tell me the answer to a question and I’ll do the same,” I said as I tucked my hands into my pant pockets.

“Fine. I’m alone because Riley got held up at work and Leo got called in early to prepare for his fight. I wanted to get changed and collect my thoughts.” She said before looking away.

“I see. So what is the deal with them? Are you with both of them?” I asked as I followed her to the kitchen.

“I don’t know. It’s very new but I suppose so.” She said absently, sorting through a drawer.

“Care to add another to your collection?” I teased and she stopped shuffling the papers, looking at me.

“What? Are you serious?” She said with a snort and I leaned forward.

“Dead serious, Love. I think you and I would make for a great fuck. Let’s do it. Get it out of our system.” I said.

It wasn’t a lie. I had been imagining her since the minute I saw her scowling face over my fence.

“You’re insane.” She muttered and I felt an irrational surge.

I was about to sign up for a lifetime of bullshit to protect my little brother from the truth and that probably meant I would end up engaged by the end of this weekend to a woman I hated.

I wanted to do something for myself.

I grabbed her, spinning her around until she was pressed against the fridge, and caged her in.

“You make me feel insane. Come on, Love. Just one taste. You know you are interested.” I said and she narrowed her eyes, her breath caressing my skin.

“No. Get off me. I have to get ready.” She said and I sighed.

“Fine. But I’m coming with you.” I said and she laughed.

“Are you fucking high right now? Why would I take you with me?” She looked at me like I had a second head.

“Because I’m great fun to take places and if you don’t let me, I’ll just follow you. Besides, you have bad people following you and I want to keep you safe.” I said, realizing how insane I actually sounded.

“I am the bad people, Hamish. I know how to look after myself.” She muttered before walking down the hall to her room.
