They didn’t work for Alexsei? That meant I had another enemy I didn’t know.

I couldn’t think about that right now as I stood taller, bracing myself against the sway of the van, and swung the bar again, hitting him in the shoulder.

“FUCK!” he shouted before the driver swerved and I stumbled.

“I’ll cut you, bitch.” He snapped before he lunged for me, swinging the knife wildly. I put my arm up to block him before he hit my face, crying out as the blade sliced my skin.

“Fuck…you.” I spat as I kicked him and swung the crowbar into his face, watching his eyes roll back.

I turned to the driver who looked at me over his shoulder, fumbling with a gun.

“Don’t make me shoot you. If I have to choose between me or you, I’ll kill you.” He said and I smiled.

“I choose you.” I said before I grunted, lifting the crowbar up in my weak arms, the blood making my grip slip.

He wildly fired at me, trying to keep his eyes on the road and I felt a bullet hit my leg before I swung the crowbar at his head.

His face smashed into the door, blood smearing against the glass before the van swerved then I was airborne as the van rolled.

Metal screeched as it crunched into the road and I came down hard, the wind knocked from me as glass shattered and pain exploded through me.

As it came to a stop, I sucked in a breath and rolled over, crawling out of the broken window until I was free.

The wheels were still spinning slowly, a slight groan from metal settling the only sound in the street as I rolled onto my back and looked at the night sky.

Pain had my body screaming as I took a shuddering breath. I couldn’t stay here. There was no telling who they worked for and how long it would be before they sent someone.

I slowly rolled to my hands and knees, looking around me at the streets to get my baring.

We were on the outskirts of an upscale suburb, and I knew one person who lived a few blocks away.

It was risky going there, but I needed help and the kind of help that knew how to stop bleeding without questions, and I didn’t know who to trust, at least I knew what to expect from this person and I knew they had a moral code somewhere.

At least I hoped they still did.

Leo had asked me to come tonight and Hamish had just randomly decided to follow along. Even Riley was a suspect with his insistence in my life right now.

I stumbled to my feet, seeing a few people begin to appear from their houses and I jogged as best I could away from the wreckage.

I was glad I had opted for flat shoes for tonight, not that it would have mattered at this point. My breath came in harsh pants as I tried to stick to the shadows, not wanting anyone to see me.

Sirens sounded in the distance, slowly fading the further away from the main road that I got.

I saw the street that told me I was almost there, my head swimming as blood soaked my clothes.

I did my best to make sure I wasn’t leaving a trail of it for someone to follow, hoping my clothes would soak enough until I got to my destination.

When I saw the house in question with the black SUV in the driveway and a light on, I almost sobbed with relief.

A sensor light lit up the driveway as I stumbled past the car to the door, slamming my palm down on the crisp white paint and almost laughing at the red handprint left behind.

The door opened, a gun pointed at my head as I looked up into the eyes of the one person who I should be running from and ironically was the only one I could trust.

His eyes widened as he looked at me then glanced out of the door to the street.

“I didn’t know where else to go,” I whispered before my body gave out, the adrenaline wearing off.

I fell forward and he dropped the gun, catching me.
