“Katerina.” He said softly before I blacked out.

“Hey. Where’s Kat?” I asked Hamish as I made my way past some screaming fans.

Leo was in the ring, shirt off, and focused on his opponent as people shouted either insults or encouragement toward him.

I had been caught up closing with some last-minute customers and Katerina had warned me that Hamish was here.

I can’t say I was entirely surprised after seeing his interaction with her in the café. The man was clearly attracted to her and judging from Katerina’s reaction, it was a mutual feeling not that she would admit it.

“She went to get some drinks. She should be back by now. I’m surprised you didn’t pass her.” Hamish said with a small frown.

Something wasn’t right. I pulled out my phone and dialed her, fear settling in the pit of my stomach.

“It’s going straight to voicemail,” I said and Hamish looked worried.

“We should go and look for her,” I said, turning around as a security guard came rushing over, his eyes wide with panic until he spotted Hamish.

“Someone took her.” He shouted over the roar of the crowd as the round started.

Hamish and I pushed past them until we reached the guard.

“What did you say?” Hamish said.

“I couldn’t get to her in time. I saw a man drag her into a van with two other men and they took off. She looked knocked out.” He said, eyes wide.

“I tried. I came straight here as soon as the van disappeared. I have the number plate.” He said and Hamish grabbed his arm, changing from the easy-going man I had seen to something dark and determined.

He glanced at me, and I nodded, acknowledging that I was following until we got outside.

“Tell me everything.” He said as he pulled out his phone.

Blood rushed through my ears as the man talked and I felt lightheaded. Katerina was taken by someone.

She was gone. I had finally just got her in my life and she was missing.

“Hey. I need you to stay calm and level-headed right now. Do you know of any places she would go if she was in trouble?” He asked and I shook my head.

“No. I barely know about this side of her life. She refused to tell me. Leo probably has a better idea of people she is around.” I said when I remembered the police officer.

“Wait. That night her house was broken into. The person she called was the chief of police, Liam Walker. He came with one other person and said he would keep it under wraps.” I said and Hamish nodded.

“Did you get all that?” He said to the phone and I realized he must have called someone.

“Yeah. You know there are rumors that the Chief of Police is in bed with the woman connected to the Mexican Cartel, right?” The man on the other line said.

“I already know about that, Steve. This isn’t the time for gossip. Can you track the van?” Hamish said as the man hummed and then whistled.

“Call just came in for a wreck with the car. Police are on site now. Two dead in the back.” The man said and I looked at Hamish, my world caving in.

“No woman though. Your girl isn’t there, but I would start with that. I’ll run a search for any known associates in the vicinity and call if I hear anything else.” He said before he hung up.

“Well, we know she isn’t dead in the van which means she might have gotten away,” Hamish said softly and I almost laughed.

“Or they took her somewhere else,” I said and he glanced at me as he made another call.
