“Don’t worry, Gus-Gus,” I say softly. “I’m still planning on turning back into a pumpkin at midnight.”

“I love pumpkins,” he replies smoothly. “Especially the spicy ones.”

I roll my eyes. “You’re pushing your luck again.”

“I’m sorry. I can’t help myself,” he mumbles, pulling me in closer so I can rest my cheek against his chest as he rocks us gently. His thumb sweeps across my lower back, sending another round of chills through my body.

“You’re not thinking about violating the rules, are you?”

He tugs my body closer as he answers. “Violate is a strong word, Agnes. I’m a man of the law.” Then he leans down, his lips brushing my ear as he adds, “Although, I’m not opposed to bending the rules in certain situations.” And I temporarily lose feeling in my legs when his teeth graze my earlobe.

“Whoa, you okay?” he asks, holding me up when my knees buckle.

I clear my throat, feeling my face flush. “Um, yeah, I’m fine. Just tired.”

His hands rest on my hips while he steps back to examine me. “Are you ready to go upstairs?”

“Well, now that you mention it …” I lift one of my shoulders in a shrug, unsure of whether I want him to think I’m flirting or not. “But I can go up on my own, you know, if you want to grace your subjects with your presence for a while longer.”

He glares at me strangely. “Loren, all you have to do is say the word, and I’m happy to take you to bed.”

I nearly choke on my spit. I’m in way over my head, and I can’t tell if he realizes how suggestive he sounds. Then I see the slightest twitch in his lips. I sigh and slap him playfully in the chest, and his face breaks into a grin so wide that his eyes crinkle on the sides. And I’m half-tempted to take him up on that offer.

“I just need to stop by the restroom, and I’ll meet you back at the table. That’ll give you a few minutes to say goodnight to your friends,” I tell him before I even notice what I’m doing.

AmI really doing this? Do I actually want to break the rules with Blake?

Duh.

His eyes darken as he leans in and lifts my chin for a short kiss. “I’ll walk you to the ladies’ room. But after that, I’m carrying you upstairs,” he says, his eyes glued to my mouth.

That fifty percent may have just shot up to a solid seventy-five.

“I don’t know if I can manage a piggy-back ride in this dress,” I retort, but the trembling in my voice threatens to betray me.

He shrugs and smirks before he turns and leads me on with a hand on my lower back. “We’ll just have to lose the dress then, won’t we?”

I nudge him with my elbow, and I hear him snickering quietly as I dart into the restroom.

I blow out a loud exhale and find the cleanest stall at the end. I shut the door behind me and press my hands to my cheeks to cool myself off before I pull my phone out to text Tenley.

Loren

Halp. Please.

Then I slip it into my purse to attend to my business, but it begins ringing a second later.

“Hello?” I answer quietly.

“Hey, what’s wrong? Are you okay?” Tenley asks in a panic-stricken voice.

“Oh no, everything’s fine. Sorry to worry you,” I say, balancing the phone on my shoulder as I adjust my skirt. “I just need you to talk me out of jumping Blake’s bones again.”

She snorts on the other end of the line. “And how the heck am I supposed to do that?”

“I don’t know, remind me of some of the stuff I told you when you were ovulating and stuck in a hotel room with JD.”

“Right. So, um, if you want to build a lasting relationship with the guy who’s already gotten you pregnant, then you should totally not have sex with him tonight.”
