One eyebrow shoots up. “Really? How about the news, then the shower?”

“Come on, loser, what kind of game do you think we’re playing? I’ll hold it over your head so you’ll hurry your fine-muscled butt into the shower and get back out here quickly.”

“Fine-muscled butt?” He turns toward the bathroom.

“Oh, for real. Don’t even pretend you don’t know you have the most magnificent butt. It might even be better than that pretty face of yours.”

“I thought your smart mouth was shut down for the night?” He pulls his shirt over his head and tosses it into the basket.

“Yeah, well, you woke her up with that kiss. It’s your fault.”

I hear the shower turn on and return to my Words game against Gem. She’s kicking my tail this time, and I’ve tried for the past half hour to hit a triple-word score, but I’m stuck. Thestakes are high. If I win this round, she’s coming to stay for two months and make rounds to the playoff games with me.

Somehow, I think she’ll be making the trip regardless. Nora let it slip, probably on purpose, that Gem lined up a six-month rental. With Sean being gone so much, having them here will be nice.

After ten minutes, I toss my phone on the nightstand as Sean climbs into bed.

“Alright, I want this good news.”

I turn my lamp off, pulling the covers up over me as I scoot over to plaster myself against him. The nightlights flick to life, bringing our room a soft, warm glow.

Since the first night I slept in his bed, I’ve become addicted to everything about it. The dim light. His giant, fantastic bed. The feel of his big body next to mine and the safety and security that comes with it that I’ve never had before. I’ve spent too many nights afraid and alone to ever want to do it again.

I rest my head on his chest, and his arm automatically comes around me as I flip one leg over his. “First, I want to hear about the game. How was it really?”

“I got my ass drug down the field, but winning felt great. We had to work for it, which makes it all the more rewarding. Their defense was all over me.”

“I saw. I didn’t like it.” His lips press against my forehead. “Gem was blowing up my phone the whole game, cursing like a sailor every time you got tackled. I don’t think we should let her attend games when she arrives. She’s likely to get kicked out.”

He laughs. “Having you ladies at my game means the world to me. I’ve never had that before.”

I smile. “I definitely like it much better when I can be there.”

“I want you at the playoff games. Leading the division gives us home-field advantage, but if we have to travel, I still want you there.”

I prop my chin on his chest. “We’ll figure it out. I want to be there, too.”

I shift to press my lips to his before returning to my comfortable position. “So you want to hear the good news?”

“Yes. Quickly before I fall asleep.”

“Actually, I have two pieces of good news. First, Jonesy finished up the last song, and I have an album release date, and I’m scheduled at The FlyOver.”

“When is it?”

“Even better news, it’s after the season ends.”

His arms squeeze me. “I can’t wait to hear you sing all of your songs. Although, I really like it when I just catch you playing and singing when you think no one’s paying attention.”

“Yeah? Most of the time, I’m just messing around.”

“Well, it sounds like professional messing around, and I like that nobody gets to hear that but me. It's incredible when you play the classical stuff on the piano.”

“Hmmm. Sometimes, it’s just good to go back to the basics and know I can still do it.”

Sean yawns. “You said there were two pieces of good news.”

“Oh yeah. Are you ready for this?” I prop myself up on my elbow so I can see him. “The realtor called. The house that we wanted in Scottsdale came through. It’s ours.”
