ME: Be careful. I play the word wizard.

SEAN: What do you want?

ME: Oh, the list of possibilities is endless.

SEAN: Maybe we should just play for fun.

ME: Are you worried?

SEAN: Hell, yes, I’m worried.

ME: How’s your elbow?

SEAN: Hurts like a mother.

ME: How’s your knee?

SEAN: You watched?

ME: I can’t be caught completely uneducated at our event. Gem wouldn’t have it.

SEAN: What’d you think?

ME: I think 24 sucks. He kept getting the ball and then getting tackled. Who let him on the team?

SEAN: You clearly need someone to explain the game.

ME: Nah, I’m a quick study. It’s pretty clear that guy is a slacker.

SEAN: Alright, wiseass, I played the first word. We’ll just see who's the slacker.

ME: Oh my gosh, that was you. *shocked face emoji*

Chapter 21

SEAN

“So tell me, what else do you need from me?”

Rob sits across from me at my dining room table. It’s my day off, and thankfully, he was able to catch a flight, so we can discuss him becoming my agent.

He represents Shane and Mark, and I should have been working with him all along. It’s one more thing I neglected to notice while my head was stuck in the clouds.

“Anything hiding in your closet I should know about? Birth parents, past acquaintances, addictions, anything that can be used to corroborate Morgan’s claims or cause a new scandal?”

I spent the last thirty minutes telling him about my relationship with the Tigers and my sponsors, then diving into what went down with Morgan.

I shake my head. “No. Besides Morgan, I didn’t really date, and one-night stands aren’t my thing. I’ve never used drugs. I don’t drink often, and my birth parents won’t ever be an issue.”

The pain of that statement still bleeds like a fresh wound. Rob helped Shane in the past with his convict birth father, but I won’t have the same issue.

“I met my mom a few years ago, and there’ll be no further communication, so…” I let it hang, ready to move on.

“And you and Ms. Parks are not in a romantic relationship?” Rob takes a cautious sip of his coffee.

I see his intention isn’t to be invasive. But given I let Craig know way more about my personal life than I should have, I feel like setting some boundaries in this new professional relationship is essential.

“I’m not trying to be difficult, but I don’t plan on discussing my personal relationships with anyone going forward. My personal decisions are my own, and I accept all responsibility for them. I won’t have you speak for me regarding anything related to my private life. I hope you can respect that. I’m only looking for you to help me manage the business side of things.”
