JONESY: Let’s start with your new song.

JONESY: And let’s have Nora get some footage of us in the studio.

ME: I don’t want to screw this up for you.

JONESY: Andie, the screw is just about to come loose. Wait until you see when it does.

JONESY: When do you want to get started? I’ll reserve a studio.

ME: I’m ready when you are, but we have to rehearse for next weekend first.

ME: See you soon.

______

After singing for the last thirty minutes, I chug some water to moisten my dry, overworked throat. Our set list for next weekend covers an hour, so we’re halfway through and sounding pretty good.

It’s been a long time since I’ve sung with a band. I actually prefer the raw sound of just me and a piano or an acoustic guitar, but this is really fun. Being on stage next weekend with Jonesy and the girls, along with the drummer and guitarist Jonesy enlisted, will be a blast.

A car door slams and Nora walks into Jonesy’s man-caved garage with her large bag in tow.

“Alright, people, your videographer has arrived. Tell me where to set up and your best angle. I need to send the video to Miranda.”

“How do you always have so much energy?” I take a sip of my water, wondering if I ever had as much energy as Nora does.

“I drank a Monster on the way here. Plus, I don’t have a kid. Those little things suck the life right out of you. I’ve watched my sister slowly turn into a zombie.”

“How’s Gem?” I know the two of them are in constant communication. They are like theGolden Girlsof separate generations, and it’s a good thing there are only two of them, or the entire world would be set afire with their antics.

“Spicy as usual. You’ll have to watch her around those players next weekend. She has favorites, you know.”

I laugh. “She’ll give those big boys a run for their money. Now, because she’s in love with Sean, she’s their biggest fangirl. They won’t know what to do when she hits the field and tells them how they should be doing things.”

Jonesy plops down in the seat next to me. “Should we tell her?”

“Tell her what?” Nora’s eyes bug out.

“Nah. Let’s just wait a little while. We don’t need to–”

“Tell me what?” She’s practically bouncing.

Jonesy puts her out of her misery. “Andie finally agreed to put a record together with me.”

“WHAT?!” Nora’s mouth hangs open. Then she’s screaming, jumping, and hugging me. “Oh my gosh! Why didn’t you tell me immediately?” She moves over to kiss Jonesy on the cheek andsqueezes his neck. “You guys. You’re going to kill this. The music world isn’t going to know what hit them. You’re doing it, and you’re doing it your way.” She beams like a proud mama.

She moves over to hug me again, and I hug her back. It feels really good to be moving in this direction, and I hope she’s right. I hope we can put my music out there, and it will move people. I want it to help them, whatever they're going through, or make them sing and dance on their best and worst days.

She pulls out her phone and starts tapping away.

“What are you doing?” I laugh.

She looks at me guilty. “Nothing.”

“Nora Renee, tell me right now, or you’re fired.”

She looks at her phone and then back at me. “Juuuuussssttt texting Gem because we had a bet. I thought you’d keep playing it safe, and she said I had mush for brains if I thought that.”

Jonesy laughs. “I don’t know how anyone keeps up with you ladies. It’s too much.” He bumps my shoulder. “You ready to hit the second set?”
