Chapter 49

Chloe

Ionly felt a little better.

That was what always happened. I wasn’t entirely sure how I was going to convince this idiot alien to give me his damn knot when he kept refusing me every time. Maybe there was something wrong with me and this stupid alien could see it, just like the humans who have abandoned me.

My dad left when we were young, and then my mom just checked out. She did her best. The only mother in my life was Andy’s mother. It wasn’t fair. As soon as I turned sixteen, my mom kicked me out. She said I ruined her life. It wasn’t my fault, I tried to tell myself. Circumstances and poverty. Every boyfriend she ever had would blame me for their break-ups. Every guy I liked would eventually leave. Andy would warn me the relationship wouldn’t work out, but I never listened. I had hope. It’s why I loved my books. A fated mate. Someone that could give me forever. See through my flaws, but Ricon couldn’t. He refused to seeme. He only saw a human.

Our chemistry had always been electric, even on the phone. The reason that convinced me of the bond was the reason he doubted it. To him, it was impossible. To me, it was hope.

According to Pixa, his mating process happened the moment he saw me.

Once he led me back to the lab, I saw the alien piece under my desk. It was gonna be a tight fit in the duffel bag and my question was how would I explain the duffle bag. I noticed lately since that one meeting Ricon had with the doctor things have been getting a little tighter around here, security-wise.

I turned to Ricon. “You realize you are making my life extremely complicated?”

Ricon smirked as his filter was back on, so now he had his tan human skin. I really wished I didn’t feel the way I felt because I really hadn’t explored his alien body without wanting to go to bone town. “Chloe, you are the best friend of the future empress of the universe. Your life was never normal.”

I scoffed “You say that like I intended to become best friends with Andy. All I did was make a new friend who seemed just as lonely and weird as me. I’m afraid they’re going to catch us if we leave with the duffel bag.”

Ricon rubbed the back of his neck. “Sorry, Chloe, this is the only way I can fix the ship and then I can get out of your hair.”

“And what about me?”

“Your life goes back to normal.”

I smiled and clicked my tongue. “I thought you said my life was never normal.”

“You’ll stop having the heat.”

“According to everybody, I’ll just die. Congratulations on the murder of Chloe. Also, you call this a heat, which implies I’m your mate. Again. Evidence.”

Ricon grabbed my shoulders and shook me slightly. “You are not my mate.”

I kneed him in the groin. With his body parts, he hadtwoto hurt. I smiled as he crumpled to the ground. “You deserve that. You lied to me for weeks. We were on video chats and you made me believe you actually liked me. Instead, you’re not only breaking my heart, but you are in fucking denial that I am your mate. ‘Oh no. Your mate is a human. Oh my God. How could a human be my mate?’” I hissed, and I turned away from him and sat in my chair.

Emotions warred on his face as he tried to figure out how to respond to my statements. He never figured it out and turned around to leave. If he could hurt me, I could hurt him back.

Nerves—and the always present arousal—flew through my system. I wasn’t sure if we could smuggle the part in the bag. Would they question why I had it? I wasn’t allowed to go into the hangar with the ships. Ricon wasn’t even supposed to tell me about the ships. Either way, we were fucked.

When he left the lab, he stopped by my desk. “Are you ready?” he asked.

I pursed my lips and bent over. I picked up the bag and shifted my weight. “Grab my purse.”

“Sure.”

As we walked through the halls, he stepped closer to me. “There’s nothing wrong with you.”

“Then give me your knot.”

He stumbled. “I?—”

“How’s this? We make a deal. You give me your knot. If I get hurt, I don’t blame you and we go our separate ways. You’re leaving, right? You have your part. Knot me. Then I can live my life knowing I got your knot. You saw the sex toys. Humans like fisting and all that. It would be fine. Plus, your dick’s already large as hell. A knot should be child’s play.”

“I don’t know . . .”

“Take me on a nice date. Show me a pleasant time. Fuck my brains out, make me come a few times and give me your knot. Then take off on your ship. Bye bye. No need to talk to me ever again.”
