Even Hayley’s laugh was attractive. She nudged Harrison with her elbow. “Funny, that’s what I always have to say about this one.”

“As you can tell, we’re deeply in love,” Harrison deadpanned.

Hayley rolled her eyes and slipped her hand into his. “Come on, I know for a fact that Indy O’Neall is here tonight, and I have to pitch my idea for the movie rights to her series before I’m too drunk.”

“Oh my god,” Mitch said. “Don’t panic, but I think your mom is flirting with my dad.”

“What?” Sophie whipped her gaze over the crowd. And to her horror, she found them just as Mitch had promised. Naomi, with her hand on Greg’s arm, laughing like he’d just told the best joke she’d ever heard. Oh, no. Not that. Anything but that.

“Like mother, like daughter, huh?”

“We have to fix this,” Sophie said, throwing her drink back and pulling on Mitch’s sleeve. This couldn’t be happening. There had to be a law against it. She refused to live in a world where she and her mom were…

Nope. Wasn’t even worth thinking about.

“I think it’s cute.”

Of course he did.

“You do know that if they got married, we’d be stepsiblings, right?” She shuddered.

Mitch paled. “Yeah, we definitely have to fix it.” But before Sophie could stomp across the room and break them up, he slipped his arms around her waist, holding fast. “We could simply cut them off at the pass.”

It took a few seconds before his meaning made sense. “Mitch Langford, if you think that’s a decent way to propose, then you better think again. I want somethingbig.Obnoxious. And you better get down on one knee.”

“That a yes?”

Sophie shrugged, her splitting grin matching his. “I guess you’ll have to ask me properly and find out.”

Tingles spread through her when he kissed her forehead. “Count on it.”

LEVI

“I think we did good.” Levi said from the outskirts of the crowd. “We make a great team.”

Eva slipped into his arms, as beautiful as the day they’d met and just as lovely. “I’ve always known that, love.”

He sighed into the kiss, ready for a new day. A new job.

Eva smiled a wicked smile. She was plotting. “But maybe we should pop in every once in a while. Make sure that elevator is working.”

He wrapped her up and spun her around, pulling a laugh from deep within her. He’d picked a good one. “Deal.”

THE END
