He sits back. “Truth.”

Asoohsandahhsfloat around the group, all I can do is blink at him.

Truth?

And he wants me to ask the question?

Me, who knows the biggest truth about his past.

I look away, panning around the group. When I land on Lewis and Yvie, there’s a niggle between my shoulder blades.

I turn back to Parker and ask, “What’s your biggest regret?”

Tyler whistles. “Whoa. Good one.”

Parker sits forward, thinking about it. “Umm, I dunno. Maybe not asking the girl I liked out sooner.”

I can’t help feeling second-best.

Slouching, I stare at my lap and am surprised when Parker lifts my hand. I sit taller as he kisses the back of it. Tabitha awes, while Tyler and Kai call him sappy. But I don’t buy it. He wasn’t talking about me. He doesn’t need to put on a show.

“You think I’m sappy, Kai?” Parker says. “Truth or dare?”

Kai sits up. “Dare.”

“I dare you to serenade Tabitha for one minute in front of all of us.”

What happens next, has me in stitches. After initial reservations, and being under everyone’s looming stares, Kai stands and holds Tabitha’s hand. He tells her she’s beautiful, awesome, and sweet. The surprising part is, he begins singing to her like he’s in a movie from the sixties.

After Kai’s turn, we all need a break. My throat hurts so much from laughing that I chug a bottle of water.

Parker sidles over to me, simmering with laughter. “I never expected that from Kai.”

“No one can say he doesn’t really love Tabitha,” I say, turning my back on him.

He touches my shoulder. “Did you like my answer?”

I bump him off. “You don’t need to keep putting on the act.”

“I wasn’t,” he says in a small voice. “I was really talking about...”

“Yvie,” I cut him off.

He turns me toward him. “No, you.”

I roll my eyes so I don’t have to look at him. “You wanted to date me sooner so you could be withhersooner.”

Parker scoffs. “That doesn’t even make sense.”

“You’re the one that said last night was a mistake.”

Fury lights his eyes. “I never said that. I just said our kissing has confused things.”

“Exactly,” I bite back. “You’re saying it shouldn’t have happened.”

Parker grunts, turning away. “I don’t know why you’re being like this. I’ll just give you some space.”

“Fine,” I mumble as he walks back toward the campfire.
